I just want to thank SAS Travel Peru For taking superb care of my son & myself on our 4/18/2010 4 Day Inca Trail Hike to Machu Picchu. The Food, Porter Support, tents & gear were First Class. In a class of their own were the 3 Guides, Jose, Oscar & Edison, who gently coaxed this old guy along the route. Jose's comprehensive & heartfelt interpretations of architectural sites & flora & fauna & historical information left us with a deep respect for Inca & Quechua culture. Thanks!!!

Hi Maritza,

Firstly, I would like to thank you and the team at SAS Travel for one of the most amazing trips anyone could ever hope for! My friend Zaheer Aleem and I had an absolutely fantastic time and I truly have a deep respect and admiration for Fred, Danny and the crew who helped to make our experience so memorable.

I have been singing your praise to every person I meet on my travels and have already convinced a number of them to book their trips through SAS when they are ready to tackle the Inca trail.

Please pass on my heartfelt gratitude to your team and to Fred, Danny and our Porters for making our trip so enjoyable and memorable.

Regards,

Hello there,

I just wanted to let you know how pleased my boyfriend and I were with the 4-Day Inca Trail trek with SAS Travel that we took on the 11th of April.
Our guide, Hilbert Sumire, was very well informed and clearly had a passion for Inca culture and history. The porters worked amazingly hard to make our trek go smoothly and the chef cooked up some delicious meals.
We just wanted to say thank you for the unforgettable experience and especially thanks to Hilbert who even took us all out to a local favorite restaurant in Cusco so we could try cuy. He is now an amigo as well as a great guide.

Gracias por todo!

We have only superlative things to say about SAS and the 4-day trek they arranged for us. Because we were traveling with our 9-year old son, SAS tailored the trek to suit our family. Regardless, we all went over the Aurora Pass (at 4400 meters). Our guide, Justino, was simply amazing! He was an unbelievable source of knowledge about the highlands, the indigenous people, the culture and the folklore. Justino displayed the utmost regard for the environment and respect for the local people. The chefs and porters were also amazing. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious and exquisitely prepared. We would go with SAS anywhere and would recommend SAS without qualification!

Hi

I recently did the Choquequrioa trek with SAS and just wanted to write with some positive feedback re the guide, Roberto Alberis.

He was a fabulous guide - very intuitive re the needs of the group, well informed and interesting, and he created a great atmosphere for the trek. His professionalism is the main reason I would recommend SAS to other friends, so I wanted to write so that this information could be passed on to the appropriate person at the Cuzco office.

Kind regards,
Chloe

Hi David,
We again want to thank you for the unbelievable arrangements that you made for our family. The trek was perfectly suited to our needs. Justino was the perfect guide...he was superlative in his command of the history, the language and culture and his support of our family. The other members of the team were also superlative! The trek left such a strong and positive impression on our son, Jonas. We will return to Peru because we loved the country, the people, the culture, and the cuisine. (Your company has a significant role in our impressions!)

Thank you again. We will, of course, post our comments on tripadvisor and whatever other website you would recommend. We will be back to Peru and will arrange another trek through your company!! In the near future, Joshua is going to send along via e-mail some photographs!

Thank you again. Our regards to Justino!

Dear SAS Travel,

Last night, as we discussed what to have for dinner, we reminisced (not for the first time) regarding the wonderful food and dishes we were given while walking the Inca trail earlier this year with SAS Travel. Which made us think two things – we still hadn’t written to thank the guides for their wonderful assistance, and do you have any recipes available for that fantastic food?

On March 28th 2009 my wife Paula and I embarked on the 4 day Inca Trail trip under the guidance of Ernesto, Eider (sp?), and numerous support crew. To give some background, we chose SAS on the recommendation of Melbourne friends who had done the same trip previously. We also chose your organisation based on the guide to client ratio, and an expectation of good service. My wife has advanced breast cancer, at the time also had blood clots in her lungs, and has had brain surgery which affects her balance - so the quality of service and safety was very important to us.

We spent some time adjusting to the climate in Cusco prior to the walk, nevertheless, as expected, my wife found the walk challenging - particularly climbing up to over 4000m to dead woman’s pass on what turned out to be a 10 hour day. However, being the slowest walkers in the group, at all times we were supported by a guide. If we were late to the tent for lunch, food had been kept aside (did I mention how good the food was?), and we received from the guides just the right amount of encouragement to ensure that we kept moving to make it to our destination. I would like to thank Ernesto, and particularly Eider, who usually had the ‘tail end charlie’ role of walking with us, carting the oxygen the whole way, encouraging and being patient while we carefully negotiated the path in the rain. It was a wonderful achievement for my wife to make the trip, walk the Inca trail, and explore Machu Pichu, and it was made possible and enjoyable with the support from your crew. We had a great time and it was the highlight of our 6 week trip to South America. So please pass on our belated gratitude to your team, and in particular Ernesto and Eider.

Since then we have also travelled in North America and the Northern Territory of Australia. Paula continues to receive treatment, recently had further brain surgery to remove tumours, and is generally doing well and planning our next trips.

Yours sincerely,

Kevin Ayrey and Paula Drum.

Best regards,

Dear Mr. David Quintana,

I just wanted to drop you a note about what a wonderful time I had on my recent trip to Machu Picchu (November 25-28th). I would like to thank the entire staff of SAS travel. And specifically I would like to tell you about the extraordinary efforts, passion, and knowledge of one of our guides, Eder Zavallos.

My name is Sean Kenniff, I am a doctor, radio host and a television personality in the United States, I have met many amazing people, and I have travelled many places.
But I have never enjoyed a more wonderful vacation than my hike to Machu Picchu.

My guides were Javier Yupayccanna Suarez and Eder Zavallos.
Both of them were wonderful. As were the porters.
But I especially want to thank the efforts of Eder Zavallos. My girlfriend, Esther Martinez, had a bad knee. And during the "unforgettable" day Eder Zavallos stayed with us, encouraged and comforted Esther, and helped us both enormously. He was generous, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. He told us all about Inca history, the significance of the ruins, and even the plant life during the trek. It is clear that Eder loves Peru, he loves the jungle, and he loves Machu Picchu. He is very proud of his country and his heritage. It was great to see his passion.

I cannot say enough good things about Eder Zavallos. He has a unique friendliness that made our wonderful trip more spectacular. I hope you will continue to use Eder as frequently as possible. And if you are ever considering Eder for a promotion, he has my highest, and most heartfelt recommendation.

Thank you again for the wonderful experience.
Sincerely,
Sean Kenniff

Hi fellows...
I would strongly consider doing the Inka Trail Trek with the reputable SAS Travel Operator . Beacuse of regulations and permits, it is a bit expensive (about $500 US), but then it includes a lot of stuff you'd be paying for anyway... three night's lodging, all meals, entrance fees and a train ticket back to Cusco. One of the advantages for you is that you get to see/explore 5-6 "lesser" Inka sites along the way. The scenery is spectacular, and Machupicchu is not to be missed...SAS Travel took us this year (Aug. 05), and they were top notch, very professional, they provided excellent English-speaking local guides, jummy trail meals and treat the porters with great respect.

Check them out at http://www.sastravelperu.com

( SAS Travel - 051 84/249-194; www.sastravelperu.com) is one of the most popular agencies organizing outdoor travel for backpackers and budget-minded travelers in Cusco. ...

They are not the cheapest (paid something like 500 USD) but I know I got a good value for my money.

I walked the Inca Trail in May and used SAS Travel (www.sastravelperu.com) they are head and shoulders above all the other operators ( they get a glowing recommendation in the Lonely Planet guide) They have good equipment, happy porters and what you will soon find to be most important of all - huge portions of fantastic food. On the final night all the other groups looked on in awe as our food was brought to the table.
You don't actually walk from Cusco - but from the 82 km marker at Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley - a two hour drive from Cusco. The trek is four days of fairly strenuous walking, but only for a few hours each day - it's nowhere near as hard as everybody makes out. Take lots of water, some energy bars and have fun !!
Most important thing to remember is BOOK AHEAD !! The waiting list is sometimes four to six weeks long.
Plus I had been at high altitude for a month prior to the trek - and therefore had no problems, but it really affected some walkers. So good idea to spend some time in Cusco acclimatising beforehand. The cost is US$500 which includes bus out to Ollantaytambo and Train back to Cusco - if you want a porter to carry your pack it will cost another $60 - plus you need to allow for tipping the porters, can't for the life of me remember how much that was ($5-10 per day I think?) Might sound like a lot but it's worth paying a bit extra - some of the tours go as cheap as $400, but I spoke to a couple who took one of these and had a thoroughly miserable time. Others out there may have different experiences.

Brilliant trip...Guides were excellent,fun + informative.

Hola SAS Travel:

“I did the Inca Trail hike to Macchu Picchu with my girlfriend and I think it was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever taken. The scenery is breathtaking. What surprised me is the variety one encounters. It goes from dry and arid to snow cap mountains above the clouds to a subtropical jungle with lots of foliage. All in four days. And Macchu Picchu itself is much bigger than it looks in the pictures. The steps you have to climb to get through the city are huge. But the trip wouldn’t have been as much fun w/o our great guides, Hilbert and Eder. Both were super knowledgeable, friendly, and being of Inca ancestry, extremely passionate about their culture. We had a group of 09, so of course some people will be faster than others. But Hilbert and Eder were good at keeping the group together and making sure everyone had adequate rest before moving. Or as Hilbert would say, “What’s the hurry? Macchu Piccu does not move!”

And the porters were incredible. They’re carrying 40lbs on their backs and running past us like supermen. And the food was gourmet. Not the dry, yucky macaroni most campers eat, but real veggies, chicken soup, pasta, the works. And the service was impeccable. Little things like giving each person a bucket of hot clean water and soap to wash your face, arms, and legs at every rest stop makes a huge difference when you’re hot and sweaty.

I would definitely recommend hiking the Inca Trail with SAS Travel to anyone who has a chance. Just take your time to enjoy the experience, or as my friend Hilbert would say, “No Pain…No Gain…, Amigos!”

I will reccommend SAS Travel Company all my friends….!

Happy Birthday …Dear…Amigo…Hilbert…!

Steven - Australia
