We did this trek back in August. We highly recommend SAS. Our guide Victor was full of knowledge and helpful the whole way. We will never forget this trip and if you are up for the physical challenge, do it! It's a trip of a lifetime. Oh and Hats off to the porters! These men are impressive and we appreciated their services the whole way. Thank you SAS and we will direct any future travelers your way!

I had an AMAZING time on this trip in early July! We had an incredible staff (Isaac, Virgilio, and Wilbur) that took great care of us. They were patient, kind, and had everything prepared. The food was some of the most delicious we had on our whole trip to Peru. Even though some people in our group weren't feeling well, our guide, Isaac, managed to be accommodating, sympathetic, and gave assistance in the best ways possible. He was a lot of fun and I would recommend him to anyone! SAS Travel was a great deal and I feel so fortunate that we had this experience. Thank you!!

Machu Picchu had an air of mystery and intrigue that drew us in. However, rather than booking a train to take us on a day trip to the site, we decided to give the Inca Trail, an intense 4 day adventure through 10,000-14,000ft elevations, arid mountainous terrain, high jungle, That was the reality of the Inca Trail, and with my recently injured knees and left ankle, it was one of the most daunting and challenging experiences in my life. However, our party of 11 was blessed to have been led by Hilbert Sumire, a passionate tour guide (over 500+ treks completed!) and experienced archaeologist. Hilbert showed us how to appreciate the beauty of the mountains and Sacred Valley, the majesty of the apus (glacier mountains), and taught us to show respect for the Mother Earth. Through Hilbert’s guidance, patience and humor, the Inca Trail turned out to be a perfect example of the quote the “journey is more important than the destination”.

Thanks for this wonderful experience...

This review is a bit late as our group did the 4 days/3 nights classic Inca Trial to Machu Picchu back in Oct 2011. However, I had such a great time that it is worth coming back to leave a comment. Our guides Eddy 1 (Wilfredo) & Eddy 2 at SAS were knowledgeable and super helpful. My heart goes out to the chaskis who pampered us all the way from setting up and taking down our tents, preparing the delicious meals to bringing us warm water to wash our face each morning. Their strength and endurance for carrying the big packs amaze me to this day. Everything was very organized and executed. Muchas gracias a todos ^^
I love the Andes and will definitely go back for more trekking in the future. When I do, I would go with SAS again. Keep up the excellent services.

A big thank you to our wonderful guides Christian and Edi as well as the coordinator, cooks and helpers. We spent 4 unforgettable days In the Lares Valley and Machu Picchu, were served good creative meals and were taken care of really well - this in respect to our son's knee injury as well as other "slowdowns". My ride on amigo Chilii Pepper was so relaxing and helpful that I think of coming back and do another trek. Hurray to everyone at SAS and - keep on trekking.

To anyone thinking of trekking the Inca Trail I would wholeheartedly recommend the services of SAS.
In May I trekked the classic trail as part of the group raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and it truly was a memorable experience. Our Peruvian guides Fred, Ed, Rocko and Oscar were so knowledgeable and supportive, as was Marco. It is a journey that will stay with me for ever. I have wanted to visit Machu Picchu for personal reasons since I was a young child (in my 50s now) and everything really lived up to expectations.
The photo I've chosen to upload is very special to me as it was a cloud I noticed on the third day of the trek - a condor messenger?

Thanks to all at SAS

My friends, family and I were delighted with this trek SALKANTAY. Hilbert was a wonderful guide and played a big role in making the trek such a big success and amazing. I really appreciate Hilbert’s flexibility in helping us to modify the trek to help with Sammi’s foot problem. Hilbert the guide was superb and went above and beyond adapting to all individual personalities and levels of ability. He seemed to know how to get all of us over those mountains and made sure we had an enjoyable experience. We will never forget this experience and will tell all of our friends about SAS TRAVEL. The chef (Wilbert) was amazing. The food was way beyond our expectations. We love Peru, all of our experiences. The horsemen (Juan and Albert),the coordinator (Virgilio) were amazing. Organization was fantastic… We had a great time. Thank you..!

We just returned from Peru and the Inca Trail. The Inca Trail was worth the money and extra time -- my husband and I felt it was just as wonderful as Machu Picchu itself. The food the chef makes is so delicious and plentiful. Our guide Ruben was really knowledgeable and funny. We always seemed to have the best campsites each night. SAS did a fantastic job and I highly recommend them. The extra night in Aguas Calientes is a must -- you can soak in the awesome hot springs and then return to Machu Picchu more refreshed the second day and hike Huayna Picchu. SUCH AN AWESOME TRIP!

Dear SAS TRAVEL PERU.
We had a fantastic adventure in the Andes , mountains and jungle were really great...Guide,coordinator,cook and horsemen were very amazing team.
Hilbert himself as a tour guide and fearless leader is a wealth of knowledge, experience, and energy. He speaks and full of positive energy as you follow him through rugged terrain, often pushing yourself to limits you could never imagine. The food alone blew my mind-great restaurants while in each city and even better food from a fabulous chef on the way (three well balanced courses for each meal while you hike). The hike on the Salkantay Trek took a less beaten path, including our special campsites only for us, for three nigths.
Thanks very much for an amazing adventure..I will recommend this company all my friends who are coming to Peru country.

Big hugs

Words nor pictures can depict was an amazing experience we had on our 5 day, 4 night adventure on the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. From hearing the glaciers move on Mount Salkantay to eating passion fruit gathered by our guide to climbed 20 feet up the tree to pluck; from the magnificent views of the mountains and jungle, to the majesty of Machu Picchu, this trip has it all. We think we hit the lottery with our guide Aldo..he was truly amazing with his knowledge, passion and enthusiasm, while never being overbearing, and allowing everyone to have their own unique experience while keeping us all connected as a group of 15--the max allowed for SAS. This is truly an amazing adventure I would recommend to anyone who is healthy enough to take it on.

Hola Fred and Eder! We had an amazing time with you and the rest of the crew while hiking the Inca Trail. Our hike was back in January when the rockslide blocked the Sun Gate entrance, but it was an unforgettable experience nonetheless. Please see our blog at morrissmithtravels.wordpress.com for our story about the trail and also more complements about you!

Visiting Amazonia may not be for everyone, but we were willing to rough it a bit and SAS delivered an experience that will stay with us for a lifetime.

We engaged SAS Travel in Cusco for an 8-day tour to Manu National Park in Peruvian Amazonia for December 2011. All arrangements were made online before our arrival. Our family party of four was joined in Cusco by a Canadian couple, SAS naturalist/guide Herbert, cook Renaldo, driver Guillermo, and in Atelaya by local boatman Milton and crewman Luiz. Herbert is an exceptionally knowledgeable naturalist guide; Renaldo is a first class wilderness cook. We felt quite safe in the hands of Guillermo, Milton, and Luiz on treacherous roads and rain swollen rivers. We would definitely use SAS again and would recommend them to friends.

It takes a full day and then some for the drive from Cusco to the Alto Madre de Dios River at Atelaya. The single lane, unpaved road is not for the faint of heart, especially in the rainy season, which was just beginning when we were there. Our driver was very conscientious, however, allowing us to enjoy the cloud forest clinging to vertical mountainsides without our being too concerned with the ruts, washouts, and streams rushing over the road. From Atelaya, the trip was on a long and narrow, locally built wooden riverboat, two seats abreast, with a canvas canopy to protect from rain and sun, a 60HP outboard in the stern and an extra in the bow (just in case). Overnight accommodations were in small bamboo or canvas-sided huts raised off the ground on stilts. Tasty and creative meals were prepared in a dining hut or, for lunches, on the boat. Because we were there for Christmas, Renaldo prepared a Christmas cake in a double boiler over a gas flame. Given that all of the food, water, and other supplies had to be carried on the boat with us, the quality and variety of the meals was excellent. After dinner, we the guests would play cards by lantern or candle light with Herbert, Renaldo, Milton, and Luiz. The camaraderie was welcoming, despite language limitations.

We chose the 8-day tour because we wanted to get into the Reserved Zone of the park. It was a good choice. We saw wildlife along the river, from jungle trails, from hides and blinds, and flying overhead. We saw giant river otters up close, black caiman, six species of monkey, and well over 100 different birds. At the Blanquillo clay lick we stopped counting macaws at 75. They were surrounded by hundreds of smaller parrots and parakeets. We spent the night at a blind overlooking a tapir lick, where individual mattresses were laid out for us, each with its own mosquito netting. We saw seven individual tapirs over the course of the night. Huge bats were flying so close to the blind that one of us was slapped in the face by a bat wing. There were fresh jaguar tracks on the trail. The day we entered the Reserved Zone, the park register at the ranger station showed that a small group had left that morning, leaving us as the only party in the Zone. To say we were pleased with our trip would be a huge understatement.

Hello,

Eder was an excellent guide. He guided us through the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with enthusiasm and knowledge of the Peruvian and Inca culture. The voyage through the Inca Trail with Eder was unforgettable. Arriving at Machu Picchu was breathtaking. The sights we encountered along the way were also fasinating.

Soledad also prepped us for the trip, she answered every email I sent prior to our trek. She also helped us out when we arrived Cusco. Thank you SAS Travel for the memorable trip to Peru! We would def come back and recommend SAS travel to our friends.

Jason and I had a brilliant experience on the Inca Trail.

Admittedly, the trek was hard work, but seeing Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate at the end of it made it all worthwhile. Our guide, Eddy, was superb with a good sense of humour and great knowledge of all the archaelogical sites as well as the culture and traditions of both ancient and modern Peru.

The food was excellent. The chaskis were always smiling and always enthusiastic. They must have one of the hardest jobs in the world.

I would have no qualms about recommending SAS Travel to any of my friends.

I just returned from an amazing adventure with SAS Travel on the Inca Trail! While many companies offer similar treks, with SAS, every detail was perfect. For starters, our guide Erik was awesome. He shared tons of knowledge about the history and culture while also making the trek fun and personal and being very attentive and encouraging. The porters were hardworking and friendly, greeting us each day at the campsite with applause and hot tea, welcome touches after a long day of hiking. The food was amazing, by far the best I've had in my two months here in Peru! Also, SAS plans its treks so that you are at less crowded campsites, which was definitely appreciated. We only saw one or two other groups each day, which made us feel like the Inca Trail was all ours.

My sister and I took this trip to celebrate our 30th birthday and it was a perfect adventure. Thanks SAS!
