  • The 5-day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu is a journey through the Vilcabamba mountain range, considered one of the nicest route in Peru, it covers approximately 64 kilometers. The Salkantay Trek starts in Cusco, the trail itself beginning near the town of Mollepata, which is about 80 Km northwest of Cusco. From there, the trek generally moves through the mountains towards the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, (Salkantay is the second highest snow-capped mountain in Cusco, located at 6,271 meters above sea level.) After traversing beautiful landscapes such as the slopes of the mountain, Humantay Lagoon, and the cloud and rainforest ecosystem, the hike will end at Hidroelectrica located at 2,000 m above sea level, from there you will have a 45 minutes train ride to Aguas Calientes town, accommodation for the night and the following day we will explore the magical Machu Picchu citadel with your expert guide.

Program Itinerary

Day 1: CUSCO, MOLLEPATA, CHALLACANCHA, SORAYPAMPA. HUMANTAY Lake.

Early depart from Cusco (pick up from your hotels), Breakfast in Mollepata afterward 3-4 hours walk to Soraypampa, then the group will trek to Humantay Lake.

Day 2: SORAYPAMPA | SALKANTAY PASS - HUAYRACMACHAY - CHAULLAY

After breakfast a challenging gradual climbing to Salcantay Pass, you will have a chance for many stops on the way, also just carry a small day pack with water, snacks and personal items (mules will transport the duffle bags will 7 Kg of your belongings) After mid day we will stop for a delicious lunch and drinks, afterward we will continue to our campisite for our 2nd night. 2 person wooden camping Chozas (Andean Huts).

Day 3: CHAULLAY | COLLPAPAMPA - LA PLAYA - LUCMABAMBA

Another great day to hike in a high jungle area warm and a bit humid, 7-8 hours walk approximately Mid Day we will stop for our lunch and rest.
We will arrive to our camping before sunset. 2 person Jungle Domes

Starting Elevation – 2750 meters ASL / 9022 feet ASL
Campsite Elevation – 2400 meters ASL / 7874 feet ASL
Difficulty: Easy
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Plus snacks and afternoon tea time)
Accommodation: Newly constructed Jungle Domes
Adventure: Absolutely! You will be in the middle of the tropical forest you have dreamt about!

Day 4: LUCMABAMBA | LLACTAPATA – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES

7-8 hours to walk, first we will climb a bit 3-4 hours toward Llaqtapata where you can walk in ancient Inca road, just reaching the top there is a great views, from this look out spot you can see Huaynapicchu mountain and part of MachuPicchu, then we walk down to Hidroelectrica to continue a walk to Aguas Calientes town (Or Train from Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes) -Optional.

Day 5: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO.

Early breafast and bus to MachuPicchu citadel, 2-3 hrs guided tour with your expert guide.
Time to relaxs and photos
Train retun to Ollantaytambo plus a bus to Cusco.
