Visit the main Cusco´s Cathedral to admire the pure silver altar, and Qorikancha -the Temple of the Sun and the 4 archaeological Sites: Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. This tour touches on the best of Cusco, the blend of Inca and Colonial architecture and religious features meet beautifully in Cusco to give it its charm and character The stunning archaeological feats in building the famous Saqsayhuaman and other major Incan sites will astonish you.
Meeting time: 1.30 pm at SAS Travel Office
At 13.30 Hrs we meet at the SAS Travel office (near Hotel Marqueses) or predetermined location for pick up. We first visit the most remarkable Inca temple in the city the ancient "Koricancha" The Golden temple, symmetrical, fine and beautiful architecture, rich in history and legends, the temple dedicated to the Sun and other Inca deities. Here Inca priests kept momies of chiefs from each dynasty, venerated and honored during the year, especially in winter solstice, this large set of constructions were given to the Dominics after the spanish conquest in 1534.
Afterwards we visit the famous Cusco´s Cathedral, the construction started in 1560 and took 94 year to build, it has a great gothic, baroque architecture style, it is said that the big stones were brought from Saqsaywaman, the enormous Maria Angola bell, the impressive silver altar, chapels for different saints and virgins, the most venerated Christ the earthquake lord, Señor de los Temblores, this statue was a gift to Cusco from King Charles V from Spain, more than 300 paintings from the famous Cuzquenian painting school represented by Marcos Zapata, Basilio Santa Cruz, Diego Quispe Tito, Bernardo Bitty and other.
Then, the tour moves to the archaeological park of Saqsaywaman.
Q'enqo a religious Inca center dedicated to honor and worship to mother-earth. Puca Pucara (the red palace) that was used as a military control for travelers.
Tambomachay (Temple of the Water) a center of adoration and worship of water.
