UROS ISLANDS & TAQUILE (full day Tour )

Lake Titicaca situated on the shores of Puno, the highest navigable lake in the world. Home to the legendary Uros people, who live on the floating reed islands and the famous weavers of Taquile Island.

Travel to Puno is most popular by the good quality tourist bus services and and also flights from Arequipa, Lima and Cusco to Juliaca airport located 45 mins north of Puno.

Program Itinerary

Day 1: UROS islands and Taquile Island

Be ready from 6.45am for transfer from your hotel to the port and by motor boat we travel to one of the UROS islands where you can observe the lives of the people who live on floating reed islands some only 20 metres in length. After a beautiful 2 hr boat ride we reach Taquile island where we will tour around the ruins and visit these beautiful people, world famous for their intricate and fascinating weavings, after you purchase lunch we will return to Puno. Arrival in the afternoon and transfer back to hostel.

  • This tour departs from Puno. Please make sure we have your full hotel contact details for Puno so we can pick you up from your hotel. Generally a representative from the Puno operator comes to your hotel on the evening before the trip to check on you and finalise transfer times for the following morning and to assist if you have any last minute queries.

  • Due to the various Hotel pickup points transfers are between 6.40am and 7.00am

  • Do the guides speak English? Yes they are Peruvian but Bilingual Spanish and English and often other languages as well to some extent.

  • Generally between 15 and 24.

  • Is altitude sickness common?
  • as long as you take the time to acclimatize properly in Puno ie just rest on arrival you will probably just experience light effects but you are at 3800 meters and the walk on Taquile Island will find you puffing so take it slow
  • What kind of weather can I expect on the tour?
  • Very hot sun on boat ride so expect to get burnt out on deck unless you are covered with suncreen and hats as you don`t feel the burn due to the cool altitude breeze!
  • What time will I be back in Puno?
  • generally around 4 -5pm.
  • Some of our travellers request a way to get to Chivay from Puno without going through Arequipa as they do not have enough time.
  • this can be organised as there is a Tourist Bus from Puno to Chivay with 4M EXPRESS, leaves at 6.30am and arrives in Chivay aprox 1.30pm. Cost $38 per person.

  • 1. You must reconfirm your tour 2 days before departure. As you have paid in full you need to request a tour voucher at the time of payment.

  • 2. Change of dates up to 5 days before departure is possible with no charge.
  • Please ensure you recieve a confirmation of change within the same day.
  • If this change is requested less than 2 days before the tour an administration charge
  • of $5 per person would need to be paid.
  • 3. Cancelation of tour more than 3 weeks before departure incurs a loss of 10% of total tour cost Cancelation of tour within 3 weeks to 7 days before departure incurs a loss of 30% of total tour cost
  • Cancelation of tour within 7 days - 1day before departure incurs a loss of 50% of total tour cost,
  • Cancelation of tour within 36 hours of departure incurs a loss of 80% of total tour cost,
