  • The Inca road system formed a network known as the royal highway or Qhapaq ñan, which became an invaluable part to understand better the real territorial extension of the Tawantinsuyo -the land of the 4 regions of the Inca empire, from the Ancasmayo river in Colombia to the north and the Maule river in Chile to the south. Roads facilitated the movement of armies, people, and goods across plains, deserts and mountains. They connected settlements and administrative centres, and provided an important physical symbol of imperial power and control. Inca roads were well-built and lasting with many incorporating bridges, causeways, and stairways. Many also had small stations (Marcas, Tambos, Chaskiwasi), the Chaskis were the messenger runners who had to keep their rulers informed, and sometimes larger, more luxurious complexes (Tambos) dotted along every 20 km or so, where travelers could spend the night and refresh. The Andean road system is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

  • Choquequirao means -Cradle of Gold, in Quechua Incan language, although this is probably not its original name. It is another -Lost City of the Incas, rediscovered officially late in 20th century located high on a ridge spur almost 1750 mts above the raging glacier-fed Apurimac River and surrounded by towering Salkantay and Humantay snow-capped peaks. Choquequirao was built during the last days of the Inca empire in the government of the Inca Pachacutec 1490, by Tupac Inca Yupanqui, and probably after the Spanish invasion in 1532. Almost 40 years the Incas held stand against the Spanish conquerors (between 1536 - 1572). The construction of the different levels of temples, palaces, canals, and aqueducts is really fantastic. Choquequirao is the city which demonstrates the inspiring example of an elite Inca ceremonial center. A city dedicated to worship the -Pachamama, the Andean mother earth -the Apus, mountain gods and divinities, the river and the elements of nature. Choquequirao finally burned down and was left deserted. This happened probably after the execution of the last Inca, Tupac Amaru I in 1572.

Cusco, the archaeological Capital of America, the Inca Empire Capital
The city of Cusco was ranked 2nd in the ranking of the 25 top destinations in the world on TripAdvisor. “Inca majesty and Andean baroque exist side by side in the stone streets of Cusco, epitomized by the Coricancha - the Temple of the Sun for the Incas, and the Santo Domingo church that flank the Plaza de Armas. The andean Stonehenge -Saqsaywaman -the real House and Temple of the Sun located at north of Cusco, where every winter solstice on June 24th the modern Cuzqueños perform with devotion the famous Inti Raymi -The Sun Feast. Cusco, -The Puma city was planified and constructed by Pachacutec Inca, the reformed of the Inca Impire. In this high-altitude melting pot of Amerindian and Mestizo culture, you willl find extraordinary textiles in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley Inca towns, lively summer festivals, and archaeological wonders, also do not forget to see -San Blas, the traditional artists neighborhood located just a few steps up from the principal plaza in Cusco. San Pedro Market, San Francisco are just impressive. Cusco and Buenos Aires are the only two South American cities on this list, which is led by London, Istanbul and Marrakech.

Choquequirao Sanctuary and Trek
Under the pseudonym of the -sister of Machupicchu, Choquequirao also has a striking stone citadel, as well as its own story to tell. Located between the collision of two very different worlds, such as the Andes and the Peruvian Amazon, it is completely surrounded by vegetation, which makes it a place that is not so easy to access.
Imposing due to its location, since it is located at the top of a summit of the ramifications of the snowy Salcantay, this city was hidden from man for almost four centuries, which makes it still a mysterious place for archaeologists and researchers as well as for the curious who decide to do tourism in its territory. The construction of this space dates back to approximately 1536, made under the rule of the Inca Empire.
What is certain is that this destination has become the favorite for lovers of adventure -because of the challenge that reaching it represents- and history, because of the ancient secrets that it keeps in every corner of its citadel. Therefore, if what you want is to live a completely different episode, it is best to schedule a visit to Choquequirao on your calendar.

Machu Picchu Sanctuary
This ancient Inca city is one of Peru most precious treasures. It was built in the mid-15th century and it is believed that it was one of the residences of the ninth Inca of Tahuantinsuyo, Pachacútec, although there are also the remains of a sanctuary. Its name means old mountain, and refers to the place where it is located, at about 2,453 meters above sea level, on a rocky premonitory between Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu.
Currently, this Inca jewel is one of the tourist centers of the country. Travelers go to Aguas Calientes by train, them board a 30 minutes bus to reach the top of the citadel... a magical and marvelous place, others more adventurous and intrepid -hike in 4 Days the famous Inca Trail route that Hiram Bingham, the Yale professor, popularized at the beginning of the 20th century. The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu is considered one of the seven new wonders of the modern world and has been declared a World Heritage Site in 1983
