Hello David and Robyn,
My name is Cathy and I just returned from an amazing trip to Peru. I was lucky enough to randomly book the 8 day Cusco package through SAS which included the 4D/3N Inka Trek. First and foremost, I must say how impressed I am with the quality of service, professionalism of the staff and genuine sincerity of the tour guides and porters. The food was AMAZING and you truly have a very hardworking and dedicated staff. I will be sure to recommend SAS to my friends and colleagues.
Muchos gracias !! for a great experience.

“Hands down the best tour group to trek Macchu Picchu”
I've already sent multiple people with SAS on my recommendation and they all come back like I do: Singing their praises!
All of the trek companies basically offer the same package (hiking with food provided along the same trail), to the details really matter. Here is where I believe SAS is a cut above:
--Food: I really believe we ate much better than any other group I saw during our trek. On top of that, no one in our group was sick, despite the fact that they're cooking for a bunch of white people in the Peruvian mountains. That is impressive in and of itself, the each meal was unique and delicious.
--Group dynamics: They really try to have each tour be a group of people that will get along and enjoy each others' company during the trek. The guides are great, at least 1 per 8 hikers, and really add to the group in their own ways.
--Porters: They take good care of them and actually make them part of the experience, twice we all stood in a circle and introduced all of ourselves; we were a group making this trek together. The porters are hard working and encouraging; when you arrive into camp the tents are set up and they have hot water waiting for you to wash your face.
The Inca Trail Hike is an incredible journey and a lifelong memory. SAS Travel is the perfect way to experience it.
Hi SAS Travel,
Few days ago we finished a nice adventure in the mountains for me and my friends it was an incredible tour, Hilbert did a great job , serious, historical information of the archeological sites. The Inca trail is an amazing trip.
Awesome in every single way, would not change anything, meals were superb, coordinator Valerio he is very charming man, the porters are nice people and very friendly. Thanks, I would recommend SAS Travel, we made this adventure with the best company..

Completed the 4 day Inca Travel with my daughters yesterday. Delivered everything it promised, giving this over 50 an incredible life lesson ending in spiritual paradise of MachuPicchu.
Even the landslide which required some re-routing did not phase our excellent guides Rueben and Danny who ensured the changes proceeded smoothly while keeping a diverse but fun group entertained. This professionalism was evident in the way they assisted, but not rescued, me in overcoming the Dead Women's Pass on Day 2 in difficult conditions. (yes, I did choose the wet season)
Highly recommended for all who like a challenge.
Hola,
Just a quick message to say thank you for a fantastic four day hike to Machu Picchu with your company SAS Travel on 7th Nov 2011.
Your porters and guides were always so helpful, friendly, patient and professional.
I really liked the way the guides sat with us every evening, ate this is something I found quite unique about your tour compared to other tours I had done in South America the guides wanted to make us feel at ease and share a laugh or two about the days events!
The tour was so well planned out and no doubt you have heard many times the variety and quality of the food you provided was world class.
I would like to take this opportunity to highly recommend the two tour guides we had in particular Hugo Santos. He was an amazing guide so patient and kind to me when I found it difficult in places especially dead women's pass on the second day. He was with me every step of the way with a big smile on his face sharing words of encouragement with me........his kindness will never be forgotten.
Keep up the good work SAS !
I will continue to recommend your tours to fellow travels who ask for advise..
Thanks again, Nora Lennon.

Refugio Amazonas is the latest addition to Rainforest Expeditions Tambopata portfolio. As a charming 32 bedroom lodge, it is well placed immediately adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve.
Surrounded by a mosaic of waterways and habitats and a worked Brazil Nut concession Refugio Amazonas presents an ideal balance for naturalist exploration and observations of sustainable forest use by local populations. In collaboration with ANIA an environmental education NGO, Refugio Amazonas caters for families with children of all ages.

Arrival & Reception by Guide
Our guides are biologists, tourism professionals, or community members. Unless noted otherwise, our guides speak English. We assign guides at 10:1 ratio in Refugio Amazonas. This means groups smaller than 10 people will be merged with other groups under one guide. If you would like a private guide or a guide in a language other than English please let us know.
Transfer Airport to Puerto Maldonado Headquarters
Upon arrival from Lima or Cusco, we will welcome you at the airport and drive you ten minutes to our Puerto Maldonado headquarters. While enjoying your first taste of the forest in our gardens we will ask you to pack only the necessary gear for your next few days, and leave the rest at our safe deposit. This helps us keep the boats and cargo light.
Transfer Pto Maldonado Headquarters to Tambopata River Port
Skirting Puerto Maldonado, we drive 20 kilometers to the Tambopata River Port, entering the Native Community of Infierno. The port is a communal business.
Transfer Boat - Tambopata River Port to Refugio Amazonas
The two and a half hour boat ride from the Tambopata Port to Refugio Amazonas will take us past the Community of Infierno and the Tambopata National Reserve´s checkpoint and into the buffer zone of this 1.3 million hectare conservation unit.

Boxed Lunch
Orientation
Upon arrival, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips.
Dinner
Caiman Search
We will be out at the river’s edge at night, scanning the shores with headlamps and flashlights to catch the red gleams of reflection from caiman eyes.
LD
Overnight at Refugio Amazonas
Breakfast
Oxbow Lake Visit
We will paddle around the lake on a canoe or a catamaran, looking for lakeside wildlife such as hoatzin, caiman and hornerd screamers, hoping to see the otters which are infrequently seen here. You will also be rewarded with overhead sightings of macaws.
Canopy Tower
A thirty minute walk from Refugio Amazonas leads to the 25 meter scaffolding canopy tower. A bannistered staircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. The tower has been built upon high ground, therefore increasing your horizon of the continuous primary forest extending out towards the Tambopata National Reserve. From here views of mixed species canopy flocks as well as toucans, macaws and raptors are likely.
Lunch
Farm Visit
Five minutes downriver from the lodge lies a farm owned and managed by charismatic Don Manuel from the neighbouring community of Condenado. He grows a variety of popular and unknown Amazon crops - just about every plant and tree you see serves a purpose.
Ethnobotanical Tour
Along this trail we will find a variety of plants and trees that are used by the local population with at least the same variety of purposes. We will learn about the medicinal (and other) uses of Ajo-Sacha, Yuca de Venado, Uña de Gato, Charcot-Sacha, Para-Para, among several others.
Dinner
Tambopata National Reserve Lectures
Nightly lectures prepared by the staff of Refugio Amazonas cover conservation threats, opportunities and projects in the Tambopata National Reserve
BLD
Overnight at Refugio Amazonas
Parrot Clay Lick
A fifteen minute boat ride and sixty minute walk from Refugio Amazonas is a clay lick used both by parrots and parakeets. From a blind you will see parrots and parakeets descend on most clear days to ingest the clay on a bank. Species such as Dusky headed and Cobalt winged Parakeet descend at this clay lick. With luck we will also see some or all of the following species in the early morning rush: Mealy and Yellow-crowned Amazons, Blue-headed Pionus, Severe macaw and Orange-cheeled (Barraband`s) Parrot. We visit the lick at dawn, when parrots are most active or in midmorning or early afternoon, when they are active.
Breakfast
Mammal Clay Lick
Twenty minutes walking from Refugio Amazonas is a peccary clay lick. These wild rain forest pigs show up in herds of five to twenty individuals to eat clay in the late morning. Chances of spotting them are around 15%, but well worth the short hike. Other wildlife also shows up including deer, guan and parakeets.
Lunch
Sea-Kayaking the Tambopata River
No previous experience is required. A boat will bring us upriver and then we will paddle down a portion of the Tambopata River with some rapids, although most of the progress presents low difficulty. At the shores we will observe fragmented parts of the forest and come across with locals that work at the few farms in the region. To finish our experience, we´ll stop on a sandy beach and take a well deserved bath. No experience required, only swimming knowledge.
