Our Inca Trail Tour was absolutely incredible and exceeded all expectations! This was largely due to our guide Henrry who is so knowledgeable about the landscape, history, astronomy and spirituality of the region - he also has a really fun attitude & energy. The chef was wonderful and cooked us delicious food, it was lovely to try some peruvian classics while also accommodating our dietary requirements. All of the team at SAS were so welcoming and made our trek so special and memorable, we can’t thank you enough!!

Incredible experience and will never forget!
Dayvis is the best tour guide. He is super nice, very knowledgeable and very accommodating! The whole SAS trek team is incredible and highly will recommend to all my family and friends! It was my birthday and they even baked me a cake with what they had, it meant so much to me! Appreciated all the cooks, porters and especially our guide Dayvis. We are so thankful for SAS !!
Best Salkantay Tour Company!!
SAS went above and beyond in every way for our 5 day salkantay trail! Best trip ever! Highly recommend this company for the best service and experience.
Roger, our tour guide made every moment so special full of knowledge sharing, laughter, and positivity. He brought us on special add on hikes and excursions that were incredible. Oscar, our chef, prepared literal feasts for every meal that were all delicious, unique, and nourishing. Other tour groups were salivating when they saw the food we were served. Elias, quickly became our friend with morning tent wake-ups with cocoa tea, his huge smile, and incredible service for camping and meal time. All of the staff was incredible and made our experience feel like “glamping” in the most beautiful Peruvian Andes scenery.
Jonathan, made planning this trip so easy with quick responses and extreme flexibility when we had to reschedule to 2022 after the 2020 surprise pandemic interrupted plans.
It should also be noted that during our trip there were strikes going on that led to blockades around Cusco, making it difficult to get to the trailhead on day 1. However, our SAS team was the only tour company that found a way for us to begin the trip on time with commitment and creativity. We are so thankful for SAS!!
Sacred Valley plus Short Inca Trail.!
Just finished the Sacred Valley plus Short Inca Trail 3 Days/ 2 Nights Tour. The tour was incredible and more than covered everything in the prospective. But what really made the trip was the office staff and the guide. The personal attention from the Cusco office staff Jonathan as he setup the trip just as we requested including getting tickets to Huayna Piccho Mountain at the time we wanted and arranging for airport transport and Covid testing. I had a few special needs due to age and allergies, and he made sure that they were addressed.
Our guide for the 3 days, Danny Ramirez, was both an expert guide with a deep knowledge of Inca and Spanish culture as well as the local flora and fauna, but also a personal coach, encouraging me forward yet giving me space to enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. It was a real privilege for me and my family to spend 3 days with him. Thank you.
The most amazing experience!
I just finished the 4 day/3 night Inca Trail with Deyviss and his team of incredible porters and a phenomenal cook. The trail was challenging, but Deyviss did an incredible job encouraging and taking care of everyone. He was the only guide on the trail that we saw who was carrying an oxygen tank, which quite a few people (even in other companies’ tour groups!) needed on the second day. He was also extremely empathetic and made sure that everyone’s needs and fitness levels were accommodated at all times. Along the trail, he answered all of our questions, motivated us, and taught us an immense amount about Peruvian history. He truly was instrumental in making our tour group feel like a family.
In addition, the campsite experience and food was AMAZING. The porters always got to the campsite with smiles (I don’t know how they did it) and set up everything for us, making the logistics so easy. We always got fresh, hot, delicious meals, and they always made sure to take care of my dietary restrictions. We even got snacks every morning!
Overall, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the SAS team for making my experience so seamless and memorable. I couldn’t recommend them enough!

At 08:30 am depart for our guided Sacred Valley tour to Visit the traditional Pisac market, then we walk around the Inca site in Pisac for nearly 2 hours, then the bus descend down to the village to continue to Yucay and Urubamba Valley. This is where we stop for our Buffet lunch (this will take 45 minutes) then we continue toward Ollantaytambo Inca site where we will have a guided tour. After this tour you will be set in your hotel (Dinner is not included)
Hotel Sol Ollanta or Apu Lodge
Pick-up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo at 8:00 am. Make sure you carry your original passport or ISIC card. Our journey from Ollantaytambo to Piskacucho takes approximately 1 hours, with many beautiful views of the Sacred Valley, the Urubamba River, Andean towns, and the Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Along the way, we will stop to stretch our legs, use the bathroom, and enjoy breakfast, before continuing on to Piscacucho (2,680 m / 8,790 ft). There we will meet our camp crew and the porters who will carry our belongings during our 35-mile hike. Passports in hand, we clear the official Inca Trail check point, cross a suspension footbridge across the Urubamba River, and begin our trek with a gentle climb. We have three hours on relatively level terrain as we follow the course of the river, rewarded with superb views of Mount Veronica (5,750 m). The easy walk passes through a forest of giant cactus and native bushes. At Miskay we take the trail to the left, ascending gradually to Willkaraccay high above the mouth of the Cusichaca River and across from the Inca town of Llactapata (Terrace Town). Our vantage point is from a flat bluff above the extensive site, which was built as a fort because it commands the entrance to the Cusichaca Valley. The terracing system was used during Inca times for growing maize, a prestige crop that needed irrigation in the dry highlands. After a short rest, we continue another 15 minutes down to our lunch site at Tayaroc. Our path is adorned with native flowers and bromeliads growing in the boulders along the left side, and by majestic views of the mountains in both valleys. Walking times are always approximate, depending on weather conditions, group ability and other factors. After lunch, another 3-4 hours will bring us to the village of Wayllabamba (3,000 m / 9,840 ft), followed by an uphill climb through woods and along a stream to our first camp at Ayapata (3,300 m / 10,824 ft). You will be rewarded with Te Macho and a buffet dinner. Buenas Noches!!!

Camping
After breakfast, we depart from the Ayapata camp around 7:00 am. This is our longest day, but one rewarded with spectacular views down several valleys and up to the surrounding snow-covered peaks. We will put in a 5-hour hike to reach our lunch camp in the Pacaymayo Valley, then another 3-4 hours to our night camp at Chakicocha.
We begin with a 900-m ascent up to the Warmiwanusca (Dead Womans) Pass at 4,200 m/13,776 ft. Along the way, we ascend steeply uphill through the Corralpunku Valley to the Llulluchayoc Zone, where you can see several species of birds. With luck we will see hummingbirds, falcons and black-chested buzzard eagles. We will soon enter a beautiful cloud forest, or polylepis woodland, and the treeless grasslands of the puna. From this point, you can see the highest pass ahead. The path climbs for two more hours along a large number of steps, some of them newly laid to protect the mountain from erosion. You can walk at your own pace, stopping to catch your breath whenever you like. This last hard climb brings us to Dead Womans Pass, the first of two that we will cross today.
Once the full group reaches this pass, we take a rest break before beginning a steep descent into the Pacaymayo Valley on the other side. You will find that your energy returns as we proceed along this downhill segment toward a generous lunch and rest.
In the afternoon we begin a second ascent, this time to the ruins at Runcuracay, located a bit below the Runcuracay Pass (3,950 m / 12,956 ft). From the pass, in clear weather, you can look back to the Dead Womans Pass and forward to a breath-taking sweep of snow-capped peaks. These include the 6,000-m Pumasillo (Pumas Claw) massif. From here, most of the trail is downhill or gently undulating until we reach the impressive ruins at Sayacmarca.
After some exploration, another 20 minutes bring us to Chakicocha (3,400 m / 11,000 ft). This will be our coldest night on the trail, at around +3 degrees C in December and -4 C in June. Tea time and Buffet Dinner.
Maximum Altitude: 4,200 m/13,776 ft
Minimum Altitude: 3,000 m/9,840 ft

Camping
At sunrise, you will enjoy the beautiful Pacasmayo Valley, then a gentle up to Runcuracay ruins and reach the 2nd pass then you will catch sight of Sayacmarca back along the trail, perched on the side of one of the many mountains where we have a stop to walk around and some historical information. Today´s hike is exceptionally beautiful because we will pass the ruins of Phuyupatamarca, Winaywayna and Intipata, and enjoy dramatic vistas of the Aobamba Valley. This stretch of the trail is of well-kept paved stone, still in great condition after many centuries. Your lungs will appreciate the fact that today´s hike is much more down than up, and significantly shorter than yesterday´s. Stop to rest and enjoy a lunch at Chakicocha. Later on we will continue toward Phuyupatamarca (the Town of the Clouds), we will pass through the first of two short, natural tunnels in the mountains. After visiting this site, we will descend about 2,000 stone steps to Winaywayna. If you have not had any knee problems up to this point, you may after this descent. If you have had prior knee injuries, we recommend the use of trekking poles, and perhaps an extra porter, to relieve some of the stress on your joints.
Around 5:00 pm we will arrive at the site of Winaywayna the last of the remarkable ruins enroute, which we will have time to explore and have a guided visit (2,700 m / 8,856 ft). After we can see the adjacent site of Intipata with its dramatic terrances on the left side of the road, cold showers at this camp for a small fee and toilets available. There will also be many more trekkers gathering here. This is the last oficial campsite so we recomend to look after your belongings. After visiting the complex of Wiñaywayna we have our dinner and time to rest and prepare plans for next morning.
Maximum Altitude: 3,750 m/ 12,300 ft

Camping
We will wake up very early, around 4:00 a.m. After breakfast, we will continue our hike along the final stretch of the trail to Inti Punku (the Sun Gate viewpoint). This hike will take between 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours, with some easy uphill and flatter sections in the second half. This section is the most dangerous part of the entire trail. We'll walk along a level path through a lush, humid cloud forest of giant ferns and broadleaf vegetation. Along many sections, you'll see well-polished stones belonging to the original Inca Trail. In some places, the path is very narrow, so please be very careful. Pay attention to your footing and walk slowly, as there are uneven and unstable surfaces. Do not lean on the wooden railings placed along the edge of the precipice (right side) while walking. From -Inti Punku, the citadel of Machu Picchu is not yet fully visible, but you can observe the surrounding mountains, Huayna Picchu Mt prominently visible and its geographical location clear. Here, at this viewpoint with some surrounding structures, Inti Punku (the Sun Gate), you will have ample time to enjoy the views and take photographs. Next, we'll begin the descent to the Citadel. This part of the trail is a steep downhill walk with narrow steps that can be slippery. A final 1-hour walk downhill will take us first to the upper southern sector of Machu Picchu (the Guards' Houses). The trail ends at a series of terraces offering panoramic views of the Citadel; from this point, you'll be able to better distinguish and appreciate the temples, residences, and neighborhoods. After enjoying the panoramic view, we'll descend directly to the entrance of Machu Picchu (park checkpoint). Backpacks can be stored for 5 soles at the gate. You'll have 20 to 30 minutes to use the restroom, as there are no restrooms inside Machu Picchu. Afterward, the group will re-enter the Citadel for a full guided tour. Afterward, you'll have free time for an additional walk (please check with your guide due to new park regulations). At 13:00 Hrs, we'll board the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes. (Lunch is not included.) At 3:30 PM, the train returns to Cusco. Arrival in Cusco is usually around 8:30 PM. Transfer to your hotel.
DAY 4 Meals: Breakfast. Maximum altitude: 2700 m / 8856 ft Minimum altitude: 2400 m / 7872 ft (Machu Picchu) Distance covered: Approx. 8 km plus exploration of Machu Picchu Approximate hiking time: 6-7 hours / Descent: 300 meters.
Important Safety Information: These are ancient ruins in which the structures guiding you along the trail are not designed as full safety precautions. Therefore you must be intentional while walking the trail. Specifically, on Day 4 of the trek you will encounter uneven trail sections that may be dangerous and require extra care.
Please follow these recommendations for your safety and the safety of those around you at all times: - Ensure that you always walk as close to the mountain wall side (left side) as possible, avoiding the cliff side.
- Do not rely on the wooden railing placed along the edge of the precipice (right side) as these are not designed to fully support your weight.
- Watch your step and walk slowly as there are uneven and unstable surfaces.
- Do not pass other trekkers, especially during narrow sections of the path.
- Always give way to porters who pass by in a hurry or running on days 1, 2, and 3.

- Please follow your guide's instructions.
