“Hands down the best tour group to trek Macchu Picchu”
I've already sent multiple people with SAS on my recommendation and they all come back like I do: Singing their praises!
All of the trek companies basically offer the same package (hiking with food provided along the same trail), to the details really matter. Here is where I believe SAS is a cut above:
--Food: I really believe we ate much better than any other group I saw during our trek. On top of that, no one in our group was sick, despite the fact that they're cooking for a bunch of white people in the Peruvian mountains. That is impressive in and of itself, the each meal was unique and delicious.
--Group dynamics: They really try to have each tour be a group of people that will get along and enjoy each others' company during the trek. The guides are great, at least 1 per 8 hikers, and really add to the group in their own ways.
--Porters: They take good care of them and actually make them part of the experience, twice we all stood in a circle and introduced all of ourselves; we were a group making this trek together. The porters are hard working and encouraging; when you arrive into camp the tents are set up and they have hot water waiting for you to wash your face.
The Inca Trail Hike is an incredible journey and a lifelong memory. SAS Travel is the perfect way to experience it.

Completed the 4 day Inca Travel with my daughters yesterday. Delivered everything it promised, giving this over 50 an incredible life lesson ending in spiritual paradise of MachuPicchu.
Even the landslide which required some re-routing did not phase our excellent guides Rueben and Danny who ensured the changes proceeded smoothly while keeping a diverse but fun group entertained. This professionalism was evident in the way they assisted, but not rescued, me in overcoming the Dead Women's Pass on Day 2 in difficult conditions. (yes, I did choose the wet season)

This package is a number of individual tours put together to form the extended package with transfers and transport and accommodation so we arre not going to cancel on you at the last minute saying we don´t have enough people for a total package tour. This is a fairly important guarantee these days and the reason we run it like this. Also the idea that you meet lots of different people in different tours not just a package where people start the tour Day 1 and travel with you the entire journey.

Program Itinerary
Day 1: ARRIVAL TO PUERTO MALDONADO. THE CAPITAL OF BIODIVERSITY. CORTO MALTES LODGE.
Reception in Puerto Maldonado airport and transfer to Corto Maltes Lodge.
On arrival of your flight to Puerto Maldonado, Our Guide/Staff will meet you at the Airport and transfer you to the centre of the town- where you can experience the exotic local market. Depending on the arrival time of the flights we may have the first lunch here or while traveling to the lodge or in the lodge. Your excess luggage will be stored safely in our Office in Puerto Maldonado and then we will continue onto the port. We take our private boat along the Madre de Dios River for approximately 1 hour to TAMBO JUNGLE LODGE. A cool welcome drink awaits you and then you´ll be shown to your Bungalows to settle in. In the afternoon we will take a 30 min boat journey to Monkey Island where you can appreciate a great diversity of monkeys such as the "Maquisapa", "Martin", "Little lions", "Frailes", "Achuñis", Ronsocos" etc, as well as a rich variety of birds. Return to Tambo Jungle Lodge, for a delicious traditional Dinner. Nocturnal Activities are available each night. Day 2: CORTO MALTES LODGE/ SANDOVAL LAKE.
After a great Jungle Breakfast, we take a 1and a half hour walk to the famous Sandoval Lake, passing through virgin forest, home to beautiful flora and fauna including Giant Otters, Water Birds, Alligators, wild hens, Taricayas (small turtles) and a variety of fish. We will spend a few hours in canoe on this one of the most beautiful lakes in the Madre de Dios where you can fish for piranha, row, swim, walk or simply relax before returning to the Lodge in the afternoon. We will have a box lunch at Sandoval lake.
One of the most awe inspiring features of the Jungle is the enormity of the trees and you will have the experience of standing at the base of the huge Lupuna. We may take a short visit to the Fitzcarral boat or there is the opportunity to visit the traditional "chacras" farming areas of the zone.Return to the lodge for Dinner.

Day 3: CORTO MALTES JUNGLE LODGE / TARICAYA
Jungle Breakfast, Further opportunities for discovering the amazing ecosystem up close along an array of trails. We will travel a further 1 hour down river to the Taricaya Project of specialized trails where you´ll be led by your guide. He will further amaze you with the marvels of the jungle through a gentle hike and learning to recognize bird calls, footprints and medicinal plants and their qualities. . After our lunch here you can have the experience of their Canopy Walk. Return to the Lodge between 4 and 5 in the afternoon for your final sunset in the Jungle before a traditional Farewell Dinner.

Maybe a short afternoon stroll as Marqueses hotel is in the perfect location to see Cusco right outside your door as you are in the safe tourist district and amidst 3 bein the midst of the most beautiful combination of Inca and Colonial architecture to souvenir shop or add some amazing photos to your collection.

Day 5: CUSCO CITY
Morning free to wash your jungle clothes! 1.30pm meet at the SAS office or predetermined location for transport. We first visit the central equisite architectural feats of the ancient "Koricancha" Temple, and the Principal Cathedral, in which the first stone was placed in 1560, is a marvel of the religious art possessing approximately 300 paintings from the Cusqueña School.
Then, the tour moves to the arqueological park complex of Saqsayhuamán, majestic place with impressive works in stone, some up to 120 tons. Q'enqo (Labyrinth) a religious center dedicated to the adoration of the Earth. Puca Pucara (reddish place) that was used as a military control center, and a mandatory stop for all travelers of the Inca era.

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4 Day Trek At 06:00 am a spectacular early morning drive through the Sacred Valley takes us to our trailhead at Km. 82 Piskacucho After meeting our staff and porters you will set out, crossing a footbridge to hike a gentle two hours down the Urubamba canyon, and then visit imposing sculpted Inca farming terraces and the settlement of Llaqtapata on the banks of the Cusichaca side river. We then climb a short way up the Cusichaca valley to Huayllabamba, where we camp.

The Inca Trail trek adventure We climb the steep-sided Llullucha valley past a rushing stream and through enchanting subtropical woodland. Crossing the rim of a small plateau, we find ourselves in the puna, the treeless grasslands of the high Andes. The trail traverses an open slope opposite mighty mountain crags as we ascend to the first and highest pass, Warmiwañusca (4,200m). Here we encounter spectacular views of the trail ahead to the second pass, and look back to the sweeping snowpeaks Huayanay and valleys We then follow the trail to the floor of the Pacaymayo valley, where we camp for the night.

Day 9: INCA TRAIL, PACAYMAYO, RUNCURACAY, PHUYU, WIÑAYWAYNA
The Inca Trail trek adventure This morning, we pick up an Inca stairway and ascend again past the small Inca site of Runkuracay. As we reach the second pass, the landscape opens onto spectacular new views to the snowpeaks of the Pumasillo range. We descend to the ruins of Sayacmarca ( Inaccessible Town), an intricate labyrinth of houses, plazas and water channels, perched precariously on a rocky spur overlooking the Aobamba valley. The Inca trail, now a massive buttressed structure of granite paving stones, continues along the steep upper fringes of the cloud forest through a colorful riot of orchids, bromeliads, mosses and ferns. At the third pass pinnacles topped with Inca viewing platforms overlook the archaeological complex of Phuyupatamarca (Cloud-level Town).Pausing to explore the maze of Inca stone towers, fountains and stairways that spills down the mountainside here, we begin a long descent through ever-changing layers of cloud forest. An Inca stairway partly cut from living granite leads us finally to our camp by the ruins of Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young), the largest and most exquisite of the Inca Trail sites.

Day 10: WIÑAYWAYNA, INTIPUNKU, MACHUPICCHU , AGUAS CALIENTES.
An early morning hike takes us an hour across a steep mountainside through lush, humid cloud-forest of giant ferns and broad-leaf vegetation. Suddenly we cross the stone threshold of Intipunku (Sun Gate) and encounter an unforgettable sweep of natural beauty and human artistry -a backdrop of twisting gorge and forested peaks framing the magical city of Machu Picchu.
We complete the final leg down the royal flagstone walkway, past outlying shrines and buildings and into the heart of Machu Picchu, where we spend the rest of the morning with a guided tour of the highlights and some individual exploring among Machu Picchu's multitude of hidden nooks and corners; after your guided visit in this unique sanctuary you will have a free time for picture or exploration in your own. In the early afternoon a bus takes us down to the foot of the mountain to the small town of Aguas Calientes where you can settle into your room and have a hot shower before we have lunch together in the Hostel Viajeros . Rest finally and maybe soak in the Hotsprings here in "Aguas Calientes before dinner.

After Breakfast you are assisted to board the train that departs Aguas Calientes at 09.22 am and arrives

It is a lovely place to walk around, to visit the Incan sites and even to spend the night;
There are many public buses and collectivos at the Ollantaytambo Train Station that provide a cheap transfer to Cusco via Urubamba for around 8-10 soles or $3, departing regularly throughout the day; there are also many tourist buses now who provide transoprt for around $5 -$6 directly from the train station area

Day 14: FLOATING ISLANDS OF UROS, TAQUILE AND AMANTANI.
Titicaca Lake Uros and Amantani Islands . 8.00am Transfer from the hotel to the port and by motor boat we take you to one of the legendary Uros Islands where you can observe the lives of the Uros people who live on floating reed islands some only 20 metres in length. After a beautiful 3hr boat ride we reach Amantani island where we will break into smaller groups to stay with the local families. We will trek to the top of the mountain (4150 mtrs) to see the Temples of the Pachamama and Pachatata and enjoy the traditional customs of the island people. Day 17: COLCA CANYON TOUR AND ON TO AREQUIPA.
Early excursion to the famous Crus de Condor to see the condors soaring on the thermal currents rising from the Canyon and visit other sites on the return to Chivay.
After lunch enjoy the journey to Arequipa ! We will pass the crater of an extinct volcano (Chucura) and see the famous volcanos panorama from 4.800 meters above sea level. After we pass through the Aguada Blanca National Park, the habitat of the beautiful South American Cameloidaes, the vicuñas, alpacas, waris and llamas we will view the snow-covered Chachani mountain.
Arrival Arequipa between 5 and 6pm and transfer to your hotel.

Day 19: FLIGHT OVER THE NAZCA LINES AND NIGHT IN PARACAS.
Assistance upon arrival and transfer to Hotel Maison Suisse in Nazca ( our Flight Operation Center ) time to enjoy a Shower and relax. There are a couple of local restaurants nearby where you can buy breakfast if you like or also in the hotel but many prefer to eat something after the flight instead!
Between 8 amd 8.30am you are transferred to the Nazca Aerodromo for your Flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines. Approximately 35 Minutes flying over this enigmatic zone,
Afterwards, we will visit the pre-Inca cementry of Chauchilla. For many years this pre Inca place was looted by treasure hunters, who ransacked the place completely, taking away all the treasures the mummies kept in their tombs for centuries. These grave robbers just left behind the corpses, which can be seen today all over the ground. In addition to skulls and bones, you also can see several tombs centuries old, as well as long human hairs, ceramic fragments and others remains scattered on the desert surface. After touring around we go back to Nazca to visit a ceramic studio, where a craftsman will give us a better insight about the Nazca civilization and the colorful vessels they made hundreds of years ago. Free time for lunch.

Excursion to Ballestas Islands : 07.45am after your breakfast we will transfer you to the mole of Paracas where you will take a motorboat excursion to the Ballestas island. These Islands are spectacular, eroded into numerous arches and caves, which provide shelter for thousands of seas lions and seabirds, some of which are very rare. The Islands are known as "The Galapagos of Peru".. A boat tour to the Ballestas Islands will be the perfect deal for those in search of marine life. Touring around these small Islands visitors may easy spot hundreds of birds, Humboldt penguins and dozens of sea lions, resting on the shores of the Islands. Recommendations
Flights
LAN (www.lan.com) handle the majority of domestic air traffic linking Lima to Cusco, Arequipa, Juliaca (Puno), Puerto Maldonado and other cities. Although Lan are well organized and provide many more flights per day between Lima and Cusco than other airlines which provides some advantages, they are also generally more expensive. There are 3 other airlines operating between Lima and Cusco. These are Taca (www.taca.com), Star Peru (www.starperu.com) and Peruvian airlines (www.peruvianairlines.pe) Only LAN (www.lan.com) and Star Peru (www.starperu.com operate flights in and out of Puerto Maldonado jungle. I think you will find you can get good deals on line and so often best to book online directly with them. If you have difficulty we can give you quotes and organise E tickets for you with transfers to and from the Cusco Airport included.
We can assist you with flights but we indicate that often it is cheaper to purchase your domestic flights connected with your intenational ticket. Both for financial reasons and security I believe it is better to buy a through flight ie from your leaving destination to your final destination so that if there are any delays into Lima then the airline will take responsibility for the connection. Otherwise if you miss a domestic flight it can be difficult and costly....so make sure you have good insurance and indicate your domestic flight details to your international carrier!
Star Peru (www.starperu.com) and Peruvian airlines (www.peruvianairlines.pe) tend to have offers on about 3-4 seats in each flight that are cheaper so you could book online with them as well if you get a good deal but they sometimes have delays at times and not as many flights to backup any cancellations!
Airport Departure Tax Since 2011 most taxes are included in the cost of the flight ticket for any flights departing from Lima or Cusco. Generally the only airport taxes required are for flights departing from Puerto Maldonado (Jungle) and Juliaca (Puno). Cost is between $3 and $5 depending on which domestic airport.

The only thing with the cheaper tariffs that we offer you is....there are charges if you need to make any date or time changes and they can only be made before the day of the flight and it is unlikely you will receive a refund in the case of you making a cancellation so please be sure they suit your itinerary and you have travel insurance.
Important note: If you miss your first flight on a round trip ticket then flight company computer systems annul your entire ticket in the same code so you must make sure you allow enough time for connections and print out boarding passes 40 hours prior to your flight and allow plenty of time to get to the airport.
Check these conditions with your Travel Insurance which you should purchase before flights if possible.
A reservation quote can only be held if we reserve with the first and surname of the passenger + passport number and nationality. Please note in the quote we send you flight companies will only allow us to hold a reservation in a low tariff for a few hours and after this time we need to redo the reservation. Hopefully the lower tariff is still available but if not we might need to slightly vary the time of flight to gain the same tarif or there may only be option in a slightly higher tariff and we will email you immediately if this is the case.
If you are booking a child fare please ensure you make this clear the exact age at time of travel . so we can check the discounts possibly available for you before purchasing the ticket.

If we do not recieve payment for tickets and they are not purchased before this time they are automatically erased from the airlines computer reservations and the price will generally be higher to make another reservation. Therefore we require confirmation ASAP in the form of credit card details and authorisation to charge the full amount of the flights to the credit card. Within 1 hour of a credit card charge you should recieve your E ticket for the flights or an email with any changes indicated.
When we email your E Ticket please check that the details are all correct and let us know urgently if you see an error. This is because once a ticket is purchased no changes can be made the next day. CANCELATION OF A FLIGHT ONCE TICKETED : Base tarif tickets do not allow for refund in the case of cancellation so ensure you have travel insurance
DATE OR TIME CHANGES: these may only be made prior to the flight date.
Ensure that you indicate to your international flight connection company the details of your domestic connection so that they are aware of your connection in case they are delayed in arrival.
SAS travel requires at least 36 hours notice to be able to make changes as tickets must be reticketed through the flight companies office and generally closed on Sundays. Request of a change must be recieved by email clearly in writing at least 24 hours prior to the flight and you must also ring the SAS Office at the moment the email is sent as 24 hours is the minimum anount of time to attempt and process a change. Last minute changes will almost inevitable have to be charged for a difference in tarif as cheaper tarifs always fill up well in advance.
Charges for changes of flight date or time are $40 per ticket per change if availability exists in the same tarif. If only higher tarifs are available in the new date or time request the cost is $40 plus the difference between the previous and new tarif.
BOARDING PASS AND CHECKIN
All flights are with E tickets we strongly recommend that 48 hours before your flight you log on to the flight company website with your code and there you can check for any changes of flight times and select your seats and print your BOARDING PASS for your flight. You simply use your confirmation code (example ZVRLFB) this can be done up to 10 hours in advance . Maybe possible up to 6 hours in advance but we recommend you do this as early on as possible.
You should arrive 2 hours in advance for checkin at the Lima airport with your printed boarding pass and passport as indicated in your E ticket
If you would like us to book flights for you for Lima Puerto and Puerto Cusco we can often get them for around $378 if booked well in advance.

Step 3.- PAY A BOOKING DEPOSIT US$ 500.00 per person through WESTERN UNION Money Transfer in order to: Irwin Poma Flores DNI 46612452 (SAS Travel, Cusco PERU) Upon transferring the money email us the Money Transfer Number (MTCN) copy of your reservation and amount paid to: office@sastravelperu.com and david@sastravelperu.com to confirm your deposit. We will confirm your reservation on the same day.

FINAL PAYMENT: The remaining balance needs to be paid at your arrival to Cusco in Peruvian soles or US$ Dollars cash (Exchange rate 2.90 Soles for US$1). SAS Travel Conditions of PERU THE FULL PACKAGE 20 DAYS
If you are booking as a single traveller additional Single room supplement of US$490
Booking deposit required US$1200 pp
plus in the case of single traveller the additional US$490 for Single room supplement.
Regarding Conditions for this package the main items to understand clearly is the non refundable /non transferable Inca trail permit so the deposit would be lost so these conditions are explained in depth.
-Cancelation of the package within 6 weeks to 2 weeks in advance
incurs a further loss of $400 total payment $1,600
-Cancelation of the package up to 2 weeks up to 5 days in
advance incurs a further loss of $800 total payment $2,000
-Cancelation of tour within 5 days - 36 hours of departure incurs a loss
of 90% of total tour cost...
If a party has booked as 2 people and then one person cancels but the other person continues with the tour the single supplement must also be paid as part of the cancellation as the other person now enters into a one person contract for the tour requiring the additional single supplement to be covered.
SAS Travel Conditions of 4 Day Inca Trail to Machupicchu.
4 Days / 3 Nights
1. You must advise SAS Travel of any medical problems or allergies. You need to be in good physical health and if your health is questionable, then you should consult a doctor. If you are over the age of 65, then you will need to present us with a current medical certificate.
2. You must advise your guide if you wish to leave the group or the camping area for independent walks or sightseeing. If you are experiencing any problems with the service of the guide or tour
please advise the guide in that moment so he can resolve any problems as soon as possible.
4. The student US$40 discount for use of student cards is regulated by the park itself, not SAS travel. All student ISIC cards are validated by the control of the park and only accepted if you scanned a clear copy of your valid 2011 ISIC card through with your deposit at the time of booking and it was confirmed. A Youth Travel card is not accepted by the control.
5. You must carry your original passport and valid ISIC card (if applicable) on the trail, If you do not take the correct passport as indicated in your permit, the control will annul your permit and refuse you entrance to the trail. If for any reason, you organize a new passport after we have purchased your permits, you must bring the old passport with you, or if this is impossible advise us in writing with a scan of the old passport and your new passport for us to present to the INC with official documentation to avoid problems. Administration charge for this formal change is $15.
6. Unless you hire an extra porter you need to carry your back pack, sleeping bag and the mattress. if you want an extra porter (for the full trip) you must have booked this with your original booking form as they require permits as well.
Change of dates is not possible after a permit has been processed. It is non transferable nor refundable. The deposit will be forfeited. Please note that we do this because we are prohibited to re-sell your spot after you have cancelled.
If while on tour something arises and you feel you cannot do the trek we can organise an alternative tour to visit Machu Picchu by train with overnight in Aguas Calientes joining your group and completing the tour as normal from here.
10. If you become ill or injured on the trail and are unable to continue, a porter will be provided to accompany you back to an area with emergency assistance capabilities. helicopter air lifts and medical assistance are paid at the expense of the passenger. if you fail to complete the tour due to illness we will assist you to meet with your group at machupicchu to recommence your tour at that point, although there will be no refund from the original payment.we will, however, present you with a document to certify illness and which can be used to present to your travel insurance company.
11. SAS Travel will take all reasonable care in providing service to our clients to avoid accident, illness, loss of personal property and will only employ suitably qualified staff. We accept responsibility for the actions of our own employees. SAS Travel cannot however be responsible for any action or event that was unforeseeable or unavoidable. We also cannot be responsible for improper acts by clients or other third party. You are totally responsable for your own personal property and rented equipment.
12. SAS Travel does not take responsibility for additional costs due to unfavorable weather conditions, natural catastrophe, strikes, accidents, illness, injury, loss of personal items, etc. It is the clients responsibility to carry insurance to cover these types of events. We reserve the right to modify or cancel the program due to any of the unforeseen conditions listed above.
13.- In extreme cases when “ Inca trail to Machupicchu” is declared closed for safety reasons SAS travel can replace your trek with an alternative trek such as 4 day Lares trek or 4 day Choquequirao trek and your booking deposit money will be used for this or if you prefer an alternative tour such as 4 day lake Titicaca package or Jungle trip etc.to give you some of the many options.
14. When paying the balance in Cusco, there will be a * 3% comission if you choose to use travellers cheques and a 5% comission for use of credit card.
