One of the ways that we accomplish this is by providing mosquito nets and comfortable beds with real mattresses. All of our jungle sites: Capybara Platforms SAS Camp, the Piranha Base Platform Camp, the Bamboo Lodge and Casa Bonanza have a dining rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms with showers. Each of the sites is also equipped with an emergency radio for contacting the civilized world. For your safety and comfort, our tropical chalet tents are set up on platforms above the forest floor so that the rooms are not overly humid and so that no curious critters can enter in the night time. At SAS Travel, we provide you with safety, comfort and unlimited opportunities to interact with the nature and culture that can only be found in this area of the world.

Program Itinerary

Day 1: CUSCO – BAMBU LODGE

Early at 05:45 am pick up from your hotels in Cusco, first part of our excursion will take us through the majestic Andean mountains, after an 45 minutes we will find Huacarpay lake, a high Andean Lagoon that boasts heaps of flora and fauna typical of the Andean mountains a paradise to see birds. Afterwards we will arrive to Huancarani which contains the funeral towers of Ninamarca, a cemetery of the Lupaca Pre –Inca Culture, then we will reach Paucartambo, the famous traditional and folkloric town. At mid-day we will arrive at the entrance of Manu National Park and access to one of the most protected natural areas in South America. We will continue on our bus down a dirt road and on through the thick fog from which this section of the forest takes it name. Eventually we will arrive at the home of the exotic Peruvian National Bird, Gallito de las rocas, the “Cock of the Rocks”, to observe the social gathering that seems reminiscent of a large courtship. You will find that this is quite an amazing spectacle complete with an impressive array of sounds and colours that can only be found in the jungle. For our first night, we will stay in the BAMBU Lodge, where we will arrive at approx. 5:00 p.m

Day 2: BAMBU LODGE – CAPYBARA LODGE

Today we will go to one of the main areas of the Manu National Park, the Tourist Zone. For the next 8 hours, depending on the level of the water in the Manu River, we will sail up the robust river in our motor boat. Because of the lack of civilization in this part of the jungle it will make all that much easier for us to take notice of the rich wildlife to be found here. Animals such as Capybaras, Caymans, monkeys and with a little bit of luck, maybe we will be able to see the great, South American feline, the Jaguar, which may just resting in the sun some place along the river. We will then arrive to our private area in the reserved zone, Capybara Lodge where we will spend the 2 following nights. If there is sufficient time, we will take a trail nearby the camp site, all the while with our guide will offer you a full interpretation of the fauna and flora, the ecosystem, interaction and symbiosis in this fragile ecosystem of this complicated Tropical Amazonian forest. (Walks at night optional)

Day 3: CAPYBARA LODGE.

We will begin the day with an early morning visit to one of the biggest lake in all of Manu National Park, the stunning Lake Salvador, which is the natural habitat for any countless number of local species. This is the jungle at its best, boasting such animals as the Black Cayman and the Giant River Otters, both of which are endangered and at risk of extinction. This is one of the only areas in the entire world where we may see one, not in captivity, but instead in its natural home. During the evening, we will continue on to get another lake; this one is equipped with a lookout tower alongside used for viewing the immense lake from a birds-eye-view. This will be a fantastic opportunity to soak up the amazing views of Lake Otorongo. Then it is back to the Capybara Lodge for dinner and sleep. (Walks at night optional)

Day 4: CAPYBARA LODGE – BOCA MANU LODGE

Today we have one more opportunity to explore de forest around Salvador Lake or around the lodge; maybe we will even have a chance to see a group of Tamarine Monkeys, which are the smallest monkeys in the entire world. Be aware of surroundings, because they could sneak up right behind you! Later after lunch we will take the boat and travel for four hours down stream the Manu River to Boca Manu Lodge, on the way we might see some black caimans laying on the beach getting the sun heat, maybe we will be able to see the great, South American feline, the Jaguar, which may be just resting in the sun in some place along the river. At night, we will visit another system of trails with a completely different set of characteristics than the first one. Our guide will explain to us why and how locals are still using different plants of the jungle as traditional medicines and show us native plants from the area.

Day 5: BOCA MANU LODGE – BAMBU LODGE

Early in the morning, we will depart and move in the direction of our last lodging BAMBU LODGE of the journey, the. In order to get there, we will travel for 8 hours with a stop in a beautiful place of hot spring, where we will spend some time to relax and swimming in the hot spring; from here it takes some more hours to get to our Lodge. If we arrive early, we can visit a small beautiful lake where we can see some more birds and maybe some monkeys (Walks at night optional)

Day 6: BAMBU LODGE – CUSCO

If for any reason on first day we didn’t see the Gallito de las rocas, Andean Cock of the Rock, today we have one more chance to visit the Lek of the famous Peruvian National Bird Gallito de las rocas, and enjoy the amazing show. Then back to Cusco.

  • We, here at SAS Travel, maintain the exclusive rights to use the Capybara Platforms SAS Camp under the terms of an agreement between ourselves, the Peruvian government and Manu National Park, making us one of a very limited number of agencies that are permitted to set up our own personal area inside the park. With this camp area, we are presented with an opportunity to give our customers one of the purest and most mystical journeys of their lives.   • One of our main objectives in escorting tourists to Manu National Park is to guarantee a high-quality experience for our customers, while at the same time ensuring that all eco-tourism activities in the Reserved Zones and the Park areas are enforced. In that way, we will be promoting and increasing the amount of visitors to Manu in an organized manner that does not impact the fragil eco system in a negative way. In order to operate inside of the borders of the Manu National Park, an agency must be a legitimate and reputable Travel Company with an official, government issued licence to work there. This license then has to be reviewed and renewed every single year by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and presented to the National Resourses Institute, INRENA. They do this to ensure that each agency inside of the park itself is maintaining their standards and dedication to quality.
  • And of course, the conservation of this rich biodiversity is the highest priority for all of us, not even just as a company that is run by Peruvians, but also as citizens of the world. In our eco tours, we go through great stakes to take care of the lands by doing such things as minimizing the use of plastics and being sure to transfer all of our waste back to Cusco along with us when we leave. For that reason, all of our bio tours consist of the most natural and organic experiences available in the jungle today. If we are able to provide a perfect mixture of this mentality and at the same time provide for you a comfortable and mind opening experience, then we have succeded our goal.
  • The INRENA is also the group responsible for charging each of the tourists that enters the park US $50 each. The money that is produced this way is then re-invested into the park itself, providing such ammenities as trails, piers, observation platforms and canoes at the two lakes where the companies have their camping sites, as well as a small amount of assistance for native communities such as the Matchiguenkas, whom are charged with caring for this unique forest and its fauna inhabitants.
  • To be one of the hand full of Manu Operators is not necessarilly an easy job. Each of the chosen agencies had to prove themselves in a "competition" , if you will, against all the other agencies in Peru who also wished to have their own area inside the park. All Manu Operators, such as SAS Travel, are also required to pay fees and concession rates to the INRENA, in order to maintain our facilities within the confines of the park, creating jobs for locals residents as parks security and maintenence. The money that the INRENA earns is even used to support other national parks and state preserves in Peru that are in danger of perishing over time.
  • Another of the regulations that we agencies must follow is that all of the guides that we send there must be officially licenced and sponsored by an official Manu Operator. They must then have their license renewed every single year, again, to ensure that this guide is maintaining his desire to provide eco- tourism in a responsible and respectful way. One of the ways that they test this is by giving the guide a yearly exam, which, if they were to fail, then they would lose their license for doing guide work inside of the park. There is a maximum ratio of 1 guide per 10 passengers so it is very important to us that they be of the quality that we desire. At this time, there are only 45 licensed Manu Guides allowed to take groups in Manu National Park. All of our guides belong to this exclusive association.

  • 6.-IF CANCELLATION OCCURS WITHIN 6 WEEKS TO 2 WEEKS OF DEPARTURE INCURS A LOSS OF 60% OF TOTAL TOUR COST.
  • 7.- IF CANCELLATION OF TOUR WITHIN 2 WEEKS TO 4 DAYS OF DEPARTURE DATE INCURS A LOSS OF 80% OF TOTAL TOUR COST.
  • 8.- IF CANCELLATION OCCURS 1 WEEK BEFORE DEPARTURE 20% OF FULL PRICE CAN BE REFUNDED.
  • 9.- YOU ARE TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY AND HIRED EQUIPMENT.
  • 3% COMISSION IF YOU PAY WITH TRAVELLERS CHEQUES 5% COMISSION VISA CARD.

  • 9.- SAS TRAVEL cannot accept responsibility for losses or additional expenses due to delay or changes in air or other services, sickness, weather, strike, war, quarantine, or other causes.
  • All such expenses will have to be borne by the passenger. You need travel insurance for all tours.
  • 10.- SAS TRAVEL will do everything possible to assure a safe and enjoyable trip but we will not accept any responsibility for damages, injuries, losses, expenses due to delays, for any cause whatsoever, this applies to any person or property in connection with any service we or our intermediaries provide, which result directly or indirectly from acts of God or forces mayor.
