This hike is accessible for all ages, and doesn't require you to be in top physical shape. SHORT INCA TRAIL TO MACHUPICCHU 2 DAY/1 NIGHT
Inca Trail shorter`s version leaves from KM 104, located at 2,100 meters asl (104 kilometers along the railway from Cusco to Aguas Calientes) and involves a 16 Km. 5 Km walk uphill to Wiñaywayna Inca Complex located at 2700 meters asl in approximatelly 4 hours of spectaculars views and Inca sites enroute connecting the classic trek at at the impressive Wiñaywayna. After lunch a couple of hours of easy walk to Machu Picchu, for many hikkers the best part of the classic trek. (Wiñaywayna means “ Forever Young “ in Quechua, and the place is named after a pink and purple orchids growing around here.)
Farming terraces “ Andenes “ surrounding the whole side of a mountain decorating this ancient Inca castle with temples, buildings and water channels. The stonework is high in quality and fine masonry with a magnificent sequence of fifteen ritual fountain baths. It was a religious centre, probably associated with the ritual worship of water. Chachabamba, Choquesuysuy and Inti-pata are other very interesting Inca Complexes hiding in the middle of the beauty of the mountains and the lower part of the Sub-tropical valley.
We walk to Machu Picchu at early afternoon in the middle of beautiful nature, sounds of hummingbirds, peacefuly and uncrowded trail until “Inti Punku” the sun-gate, have unique views from this mountain top, after 40 minutes you will be on front of this wonder and majestic place for sunset, then we board a private bus to Aguas Calientes town. Spend the night in a comfortable Hotel Viajeros. Next morning early we return to Machu Picchu by bus for a guided tour, visit and explore. private tour of Machupicchu with your expert guide, avoiding the large crowds that arrive with the first trains from Cusco. Free time to explore on your own. If your interest is climbing to Huaynapicchu mountain book your Ticket directly with the Park.

Program Itinerary

Day 1: CUSCO -OLLANTAYTAMBO- KM 104 CHACHABAMBA- WIÑAY-WAYNA- MACHUPICCHU-AGUAS CALIENTES.

We`ll pick you up from your Hotel at 4:00 am to transfer you for a 2 hour journey by private van to the Train Station in Ollantaytambo then we`ll board a Tourist Expedition Train with reserved seats for 1 hour and 45 minutes to the kilometer 104 start of the hike. (This is the best train time and itinerary to start the hike by 08:00 am and have plenty of time to enjoy this fantastic trek) so please sleep early the night before) As soon as we arrive to this point we will cross a bridge to the check out point and show your passports then we will start a soft walk into the other side of the Vilcanota river the trail heads off to the right towards the ruins of Chachabamba, see the stone altar to the sun and the mountains a sacred rock for locals. After a visit in Chachabamba, we`ll continue the trail heads south and begin climbing the mountain, before entering the cloud forest. Then the trail leaves the forest and goes west while continuing the uphill hike in open grassland. After hiking in the sun for about three hours, the trail descends into a shaded forest. This is where trekkers can enjoy a beautiful waterfall. After leaving the waterfall and forest, trekkers will arrive at the lower part of the incredible ruins of Wiñaywayna. It is recommended that you start the trek with at least 2 litres of water.

After lunch in Wiñaywayna we continue through a cloud forest full of bromelias, orchids and fern trees. You will walk the last part of the original trail with amazing features stone steps and tambos “resting places” and climb the 60 steps before arriving to the Inti Punku or "Sun`s Gate". From this point you will be able to contemplate and observe this marvelous place, last 45 minutes to be on front of this wonder, where you can feel an inner peace. Spend a short time for pictures and views, with luck you can observe a magnificent sunset, then we prepare our mind for the next early morning, time to take a bus for 30 minutes to Aguas Calientes town. Hot springs pools are optional (bring your bathing suit and 10 soles) or just free time to chill out at this small village.
Accommodation in Aguas Calientes private rooms, This is all considered a low altitude hike, but you would want to be fit. Dinner included. At dinner time your guide will inform about plans and arrengements for the next big day!! Buenas Noches.

Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES-MACHUPICHU- WAYNA-PICCHU- OLLANTAYTAMBO- CUSCO

Early wake up at 04.50 am and after a good breakfast, re-live the history and the mysterious world of Machupicchu and the Incas, fuse with the mysticism of this fascinating and unique sanctuary, discover yourself the perfect symbiosis and harmony created by the nature and the architecture skills of Inca people. We take the first bus up at approx 05.20 am and arrive at the ruin`s gate before 06.00 am when the Park is open. This time is still not so crowded yet so we take advantage of the tranquility of this sacred site. Guided Tour of Machupicchu. This enigmatic city is explored for Approx 2 hrs and their mysteries and archaeological information will be explained by your expert guide, ( you generally have approx 6 hrs extra free time but depends on train timetables in high season.)

Around 2:45 pm to 3:15 pm board a bus down to Aguas Calientes town for your Train return to Cusco. US$9 bus ticket not included, most people like to walk this downhill Inca road down to Aguas Calientes town, it takes 1 hour.)
The train departs Aguas Calientes late in the afternoon at 16:45 pm to Cusco to (Poroy train station) then 25 minutes transfer to the town or your hotel. ( Optional train at 5:00 pm to Ollantaytambo then a 2 hours transport to Cusco arriving at 9:00 pm approx, in some cases we offer this alternative return optiom, more in high season - April to August.)

Hostel Viajeros has one of the best locations in town, being very central at the foot of the bridge, only few blocks from Train and Bus Station and you don`t have to do anymore long uphill hikes to get to your room! It is about 10 minutes from the hot spring pools.   • PAY A BOOKING DEPOSIT or FUL PAYMENT.- Transfering money to Bank in Peru (Only for groups booking, (3 person mínimum or for Multiday Packages tours. Please send us an email for details.
  • FINAL PAYMENT: The remaining balance needs to be paid at your arrival to Cusco (7-2 days before the date of your tour) in US$ Dollars cash (Exchange rate 2.90 Soles for US$1 if you decide to pay in Soles). FINAL PAYMENTS WITH CREDIT / DEBIT CARDS in our Office is with 8% card fee.
  • Payments with credit / debit cards need to be made 2 weeks prior to the Inca Trail and only accepted with the commission of 5% included. You should contact us 2 weeks prior to the tour responding to the email with your confirmation requesting any final items to be added and then we can reconfirm the exact balance to be paid plus the 5% commission. You then can enter the same online system with your reference code and make the balance payment.
  • If you prefer not to use the online system you can skype sas.travel and we can do a manual payment for you quickly and easily. Or you can use Western Union.

  • CONDITIONS 2 DAY INCA TRAIL TREK TO MACHUPICCHU. -Group Service
  • (Minimum with 6 person.)
  • 1.- You must advise SAS Travel of any medical problems or allergies. You need to be in good physical health and if your health is questionable, then you should consult a doctor re high altitude trekking. If you are over the age of 69, then you will need to present us with a current medical certificate.
  • 2.- You must advise your guide if you wish to leave the group or the camping area for independent walks or sightseeing. If you are experiencing any problems with the service of the guide or tour please advise the guide in that moment so he can resolve any problems as soon as possible.
  • 3.- FINAL PAYMENT: The remaining balance needs to be paid at your arrival to Cusco in US$ Dollars cash (Exchange rate 2.90 Soles for US$1). or Travelers' cheques with 3% only at our Office.
  • Payments with credit / debit cards need to be made 2 weeks prior to the Inca Trail and only accepted with the commission of 5% included. You should contact us 2 weeks prior to the tour responding to the email with your confirmation requesting any final items to be added and then we can reconfirm the exact balance to be paid plus the 5% commission.   • 4. If paying in cash. you must pay for your tour in the office in full by 12:00 noon, 2 days before your departure. Please ensure that the US $ notes are in good condition without small tears!
  • We accept US$ Dollars cash or Peruvian Soles at our office in Cusco when paying the final balance. Our rate exchange is S/ 2.90 Soles for US$1 or cash US$. (You can withdraw Soles or US$ from the many ATM machines. Generally more economic on debit cards).
  • If a final payment is not made by 12 noon the day before any tour or service such as the Inca trail, the total balance will be charged in US$ to your credit card plus the 8% commission.
  • 5.- The student US$20 discount for use of student cards is regulated by the park itself, not SAS Travel. All student ISIC cards are validated by the control of the park and only accepted if you scanned a clear copy of your valid ISIC card through with your deposit at the time of booking and it was confirmed. A Youth Travel card or International Teachers cards are not accepted by the control.
  • 6.- You must carry your original passport and valid ISIC card (if applicable) on the trail, If you do not take the correct original passport as indicated in your permit, the control will annul your permit and refuse you entrance to the trail. If for any reason, you organize a new passport after we have purchased your permits, you must bring the old passport with you, or if this is impossible advise us in writing with a scan of the old passport and your new passport for us to present to the INC with official documentation to avoid problems. Administration charge for this formal change is (US$ 15 pp)
  • 7.- You need to carry your back pack, with change of clothing /raingear and water for the day to drink,
  • 8.- Cancelation made by Clients:
  • 8.- a.- Cancelation of tour once a permit has been registered up to 6 weeks in advance incurs a loss of (US$200) non refundable Booking fee.
  • 8.- b.- Cancelation of tour within 6 weeks to 2 weeks of departure incurs a loss of 60% of total tour cost...
  • 8.- c.- Cancelation of tour within 2 weeks to 5 days of departure incurs a loss of 80% of total tour cost...
  • 8.- d.- Cancelation of tour within 5 days - 36 hours of departure incurs a loss of 90% of total tour cost...
  • 8.- e.- Cancelation of tour within 36 hours of departure incurs a loss of total tour cost...
  • However we can organise for you to continue through by the train to Aguas Calientes joining your group and utilising your permit, completing the tour as normal from here . So if you are not feeling well enough to do the hike even at the last minute please let us know.
  • 9.- Change of dates is not possible after a permit has been processed. It is non transferable nor refundable Permits. The deposit will be forfeited. Please note that we do this because we are prohibited to re-sell your spot after you have cancelled.
  • 10.- includes overnight in simple accommodation on double basis in Aguas Calientes and bedding /towels etc are provided. If you want a room for just yourself the single supplement payment is required
  • 11- IMPORTANT: You must present your passport with the TAM immigration slip to any and all hotel accommodations. If you are a Peruvian Resident or hold a “carnet de extranjeria” or your Tam has expired, ie your stay has exceded 60 days…. the 18% tax will have to be charged by the hotel according to the Peruvian government law. So please take every caution to not lose this piece of paper.
  • 12.- Train tickets: Changes to schedules or dates when train tickets have been finalised incurs an administration charge of minimum US$10 per ticket. At times a change of date may only be possible with an upgrade and so the difference in price would need to be paid.
  • 13.- If you become ill or injured, we will assist you with any claims with a document to certify illness or other, which can be used to present to your travel insurance company.
  • 14.- SAS Travel will take all reasonable care in providing service to our clients to avoid accident, illness, loss of personal property and will only employ suitably qualified staff. We accept responsibility for the actions of our own employees. SAS Travel cannot however be responsible for any action or event that was unforeseeable or unavoidable. We also cannot be responsible for improper acts by clients or other third party. You are totally responsable for your own personal property and rented equipment.
  • 15.- SAS Travel does not take responsibility for additional costs due to unfavorable weather conditions, natural catastrophe, strikes, accidents, illness, injury, loss of personal items, etc. It is the clients responsibility to carry insurance to cover these types of events. We reserve the right to modify or cancel the program due to any of the unforeseen conditions listed above.
  • 16.- In extreme cases when “ Inca trail to Machupicchu” is declared closed for safety reasons SAS Travel can replace your trek with an alternative Train tour option and your booking deposit money will be used for this or if you prefer an alternative tour such as 4 day Lares package or Lake titicaca etc to give you some of the many options.
  • 17.- Travel Insurance.- We recommend that full travel insurance is taken, which includes cover, under certain circumstances, against the loss of deposit or cancellation charges. Please note that no reimbursements are given when cancellations occur or for any unused services.
  • SAS Travel will do everything possible to assure a safe and enjoyable trip but we will not accept any responsibility for damages, injuries, losses, expenses due to delays, for any cause whatsoever, this applies to any person or property in connection with any service we or our intermediaries provide, which result directly or indirectly from acts of God or forces mayor.
  • Ensure you give the office the full details of your accomodation in Cusco and attend the briefing the night before the trek.
