Overview

Combining a days trek and visit to the stunning Winya Wayna site only accessible by foot. then your tour in Machupicchu will be spectacular on the second day. You will arrive very early just as the park opens and not yet crowded, you will have plenty of time after your guided tour to explore further on your own, there are signs and indications around, you will have a high chance to obtain tickets to climb the mountain Huayna-Picchu (2700m/8883ft) before of after your tour.

Is it for me?

This hike is accessible for all ages, and doesn't require you to be in top physical shape. Since your one day hike takes you to the town of Aguas Calientes, you will not have to camp, or carry backpacks only your personal day-pack as we will stay in a Hotel. Private rooms, it is recommended for those having less time or those with less experience in altitude. For families, group of friends or couples.
To make even more special this short pilgrimage to Machu-Picchu, up-grade your accommodation, you can stay in the Sanctuary Hotel near Machupicchu or in Inkaterra hotel in Aguas Calientes near the hot springs pools.

  • SHORT INCA TRAIL TREK PERMITS 2012
    There are a limited number of permits for the Inca Trail (2 Day version) every year and it is issued 'first come, first served.' You must book well in advance to be sure of securing your spots, for the high season (from May to September we recommend to book from 4 to 6 months in advance) from October to April 1 to 2 months in advance. We only buy your permit once you have sent us your reservation and paid your booking deposit.

    Private Tour: Most other dates on 2012 can be booked as a private tour if you prefer, while there are permits available at the Park and you just need to check.
    OPEN A NEW DEPARTURE DATE.- If you are 2 or more people and there are still enough permits Available in the Park (Cultural National Institute INC), and you want to go in a small group tour, then we can open a new departure date according to your required date and price of the tour will be according the number of passengers in your group.

2 DAYS SHORT INCA TRAIL- SACRED JOURNEY TO MACHUPICCHU
Inca Trail shorter`s version leaves from KM 104, located at 2100 masl (104 kilometers along the railway from Cusco to Aguas Calientes) and involves a 16 km walk uphill to Wiñaywayna Inca Complex located at 2700 masl in approximatelly 4 hours of spectaculars views and Inca sites enroute connecting the classic trek at at the impressive Wiñaywayna.
After lunch a couple of hours of easy walk to Machu Picchu, for many hikkers the best part of the classic trek. (Wiñaywayna means “ Forever Young “ in Quechua, and the place is named after a pink and purple orchids growing around here.)
Farming terraces “ Andenes “ surrounding the whole side of a mountain decorating this ancient Inca castle with temples, buildings and water channels. The stonework is high in quality and fine masonry with a magnificent sequence of fifteen ritual fountain baths. It was a religious centre, probably associated with the ritual worship of water. Chachabamba, Choquesuysuy and Inti-pata are other very interesting Inca Complexes hiding in the middle of the beauty of the mountains and the lower part of the Sub-tropical valley.
We walk to Machu Picchu at early afternoon in the middle of beautiful nature, sounds of hummingbirds, peacefuly and uncrowded trail until “Inti Punku” the sun-gate, have unique views from this mountain top, after 40 minutes you will be on front of this wonder and majestic place for sunset, then we board a private bus to Aguas Calientes town. Spend the night in a comfortable Hotel Viajeros.
Next morning early we return to Machu Picchu by bus for a guided tour, visit and explore. private tour of Machupicchu with your expert guide, avoiding the large crowds that arrive with the first trains from Cusco. Free time to explore on your own. ( Goup size 6-8 )
If your interest is climbing to Huaynapicchu mountain only talk with your guide.

Program Itinerary

Day 1: OLLANTAYTAMBO- KM 104 CHACHABAMBA- WIÑAY-WAYNA- MACHUPICCHU-AGUAS CALIENTES.

We`ll pick you up from your Hotel at 4:00 am to transfer you for a 2 hour journey by private van to the Train Station in Ollantaytambo then we`ll board a Tourist Expedition Train with reserved seats for 1 hour and 45 minutes to the kilometer 104 start of the hike. (This is the best train service time and itinerary to start the hike by 08:00 am and have plenty of time to enjoy this fantastic trek) so please sleep early the night before) As soon as we arrive to this point we will cross a bridge to the check out point and show your passports then we will start a soft walk into the other side of the Vilcanota river the trail heads off to the right towards the ruins of Chachabamba. After a visit in Chachabamba, we`ll continue the trail heads south and begin climbing the mountain, before entering the cloud forest. Then the trail leaves the forest and goes west while continuing the uphill hike in open grassland. After hiking in the sun for about three hours, the trail descends into a shaded forest. This is where trekkers can enjoy a beautiful waterfall. After leaving the waterfall and forest, trekkers will arrive at the lower part of the incredible ruins of Wiñaywayna. It is recommended that you start the trek with at least 2 litres of water.

After lunch in Wiñaywayna we continue through a cloud forest full of bromelias, orchids and fern trees. You will walk the last part of the original trail with amazing features stone steps and tambos “resting places” and climb the 60 steps before arriving to the Inti Punku or "Sun`s Gate". From this point you will be able to contemplate and observe this marvelous place, last 45 minutes to be on front of this wonder, where you can feel an inner peace. Spend a short time for pictures and views, with luck you can observe a magnificent sunset, then we prepare our mind for the next early morning, time to take a bus for 30 minutes to Aguas Calientes town. Hot springs pools are optional (bring your bathing suit and 10 soles) or just free time to chill out at this small village.

This is all considered a low altitude hike, but you would want to be fit. Dinner included. At dinner time your guide will inform about plans and arrengements for the next big day!! Buenas Noches . Sleep early too.

Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES-MACHUPICHU- WAYNA-PICCHU- OLLANTAYTAMBO- CUSCO

Early wake up at 04.30 am ... and after a good breakfast, re-live the history and the mysterious world of Machupicchu and the Incas, fuse with the mystic of this fascinating and unique place, discover yourself the perfect symbiosis and harmony created by nature and the Incas people. We take the first bus up at approx 05.20 am and arrive at the ruin`s gate before 06.00 am when the Park is open. This time is still not so crowded yet so we take advantage of the tranquility of this sacred site ; Guided Tour of Machupicchu. This enigmatic city is explored for Approx 2 hrs and their mysteries and archaeological information will be explained by your expert guide, ( you generally have approx 6 hrs extra free time but depends on train timetables in high season.)

Around 3-4:00 pm bus down to Aguas Calientes for your Train return. ( $7 not included, most people like to walk this old inca trail down to Aguas Calientes )
The train departs Aguas Calientes late in the afternoon. ( 6:00 pm or 5:00 pm to Ollantaytambo then a 2 hours transport to Cusco arriving at 9:00 pm approx. )

  • There are a limited number of permits for the Inca Trail hike and you must book well in advance to be sure of securing one. For high season (May to September) you should contact us at least five to six months in advance to discuss availability. We can only buy your permit and set you in our daily departure group tour once you have send us your details and paid your booking deposit $150 pp, so you must pay the deposit as soon as you book or the permits could run out.   • Once you finish sending us all your details you will receive a Reservation Code (eg: 240611001). Then you just need to pay your deposit, pay for 2 or more person in your group with ONE Reservation Code, so we can guarantee all your permits, tickets for Machupicchu, train tickets and tour all together in a group.
