Located in the heart of the Madre de Dios river. At only five minutes away from the lodge. The Monkey Island is a place one in its kind. You will see the beautiful landscapes completely packed of exuberant flora and fauna and a great variety of monkeys in their natural habitat. During this amazing journey you will see different monkey species such as the Maquisapas, the Black Martin, the White Martin the Leoncito de la Selva, “The Little lion for the jungle”, Achuñis and Ronsocos. LOST QOCHA
Natural Ecological Reservation
This reservation, actually preserved by the Amazon Lodge, is a refuge and feeding place of a huge variety of animals such as, caimans, turtles, sachavacas, colorful birds and the majestic jaguar among some others. This place is located into our reserved area. Which in the only one in the jungle of Madre de Dios, because it counts with virgin marshlands. The way to Lost Cocha, (Cocha is a word in quechua that means lake) is a winding pathway that leads you deep into the forest surrounded by exotic vegetation, and a huge variety of wildlife.

From the Amazonian observatory, which is built on top of the SIHUAHUACO tree, the biggest and most luxurious of its kind, you could observe a complete panorama of the jungle. Finally we will make a tour in a big canoe. We could appreciate the different bird singing and the habitat of the different kind of animals. Located at only 45 minutes from our lodge, just in the middle of the virgin jungle, Apu Victor Lake is a extraordinary shelter for flocks of parrots. From the Amazon observatory you an see parrots, toucans, guacamayos, camungos, herons, caimans, anacondas and the giant wolf of river.

Program Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado Monkey Island

Arrival in Puerto Maldonado. Then transfer to the village in where we will get on our boat and begin the unforgettable journey through the Madre de Dios River.
On the way, you could observe the alligators, turtles, herons and other animals.

Arriving to the Amazon Lodge, you will enjoy of the exquisite typical welcome drink and then you will settle in our comfortable bungalows, afterwards comes lunch.

With the help of our specialized guide we will visit Monkey Island. Located at only five minutes from the lodge, in the middle of the Madre de Dios river, the monkey island hosts different monkey species: starting from the noisy ones, the Maquisapas, the happy Achuñis, and the very impressive Frailes to the very little and funny “leoncitos” little lions. During the way to the Island, very beautiful landscapes are shown to the sight with all the flora and fauna that they host, as well as the amazing sunset in the jungle.

Day 2: “Cocha Perdida” (Lost Qocha)

After breakfast we will start an adventure thought the virgin jungle, advised by a local guide; we’ll hike into the “Cocha Perdida” (Lost Cocha), it constitutes an ecosystem that is considered as a refuge of a huge variety of animals like, nutrias, caimans, turtles sachavacas, multicolor feather birds, the majestic jaguar ( Andean lion) and fish. This area is unique and belongs to the Eco-Amazon lodge, because it is still maintained intact, like the huge swamps and a diversity of “Aguajal” forests. Then we will arrive to the amazing Amazon observatory, built at the top the biggest tree “SHIHUAHUACO”, from that location you may observe the magical jungle, and at the same time have a pleasant ride in a canoe around the lake. Then return to the lodge, lunch. Then in the afternoon, we offer an optional visit to the botanical gardens. If you’d rather relax, you can enjoy the Amazonian Pool and dinner.

Day 3: BRIOLO AND GAMITANA RIVERS

Breakfast, at the indicated time we will start another excursion across the magic jungle where we will sail though the Madre de Díos River, till to get to the beginning to a hiking trek to the rivers GAMITNA / BRIOLO; born in the heart of the virgin jungle, these two rivers with their winding ways, they form huge sailing channels then we will return by canoe, observing closely animals like, turtles, caimans, butterflies and a great variety of insects. Then we will arrive to the lodge, dinner and overnight.

Day 4:

After breakfast its time to say goodbye to the staff of Ecoamazonia Lodge. Your guide will accompany you on your way back to the city. We will pass by our office again to recollect the baggage left. Afterwards our personnel will accompany you to the airport in time for your checkin.

  • Lightweight, tightweave long cotton pants & long -sleaved cotton shirts

  • Insect repellent is a must, preferably with 20% deet

  • Your passport, yellow fever certificate and extra money in plastic bags

  • If you have extra large sized feet we may not be able to find rubber boots in your size for the muddy trails as they are generally not available in Peru….so please bring old shoes for the muddy trails.
